This may not be appropriate for all roles but can be explored at interview. Role purpose The Infrastructure Manager role is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of one or more Information Services and the management of Infrastructure services. developing and executing the infrastructure services roadmaps, implementation of the strategic design, and management of Azure and on-site Servers, AD, Azure AD, Database, Storage, Backup and other infrastructure services in scope and its solutions across the organisation. They will play a key role in ensuring the scalability, security, and reliability of the British Council infrastructure, while keeping up with the latest industry trends and best practices. implementing infrastructure services strategies across the global environment and leveraging Azure technologies to enhance performance, stability, and availability. the overseas GTI Server estate and local site solutions and will ensure they remain secure and performant whilst driving forward a strategy of on site server reduction and transition to the Cloud. the day-to-day management of the activities associated with the lifecycle of the services. ensuring that service delivery meets agreed service levels and take periodic review of SLAs, OLAs & KPIs both internal and with suppliers. ensuring compliance to the organisational policy and standards of the infrastructure environment across the service providers and the business. This includes efficient operations, supportability, scalability, optimisation, and security of information. acting as the interface between the business and the IT service providers, providing guidance and assurance for both new and current solutions. collaborating with cross-functional teams to execute infrastructure strategies that align with business objectives, optimise storage performance, ensure data integrity, security and enable effective operations on a global scale. They ensure efficient and reliable storage and backup solution meets the organization's data storage and business continuity needs. With a focus on continuous improvement, this role drives innovation and ensures compliance with industry standards and best practices, supporting the organization's digital transformation efforts. Accountabilities/Responsibilities Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of all infrastructure services and solutions, ensuring high performance, scalability, and availability. Ensure the infrastructure solutions meets the appropriate business requirements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define infrastructure requirements and develop roadmaps for optimisation and automation. Lead/oversee infrastructure projects and initiatives, ensuring timely delivery, adherence to project milestones, and effective resource management. Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in Azure and on-site Server, AD, Azure AD, Database, Storage and Backup infrastructure technologies. Deep knowledge and understanding of infrastructure components and features. Ensure implementation of the service lifecycle roadmaps for the services managed through consultation with key business stakeholders; engagement with third party suppliers and industry expertise. Review and updation of Technical and Service Definition & Delivery and other documentations for effectively managing the D&T Infrastructure Services. Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across different departments to understand their infrastructure needs and provide guidance on best practices and solutions aligned to policy and standards. Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements, address concerns, and align infrastructure solutions with business objectives. Engage with external vendors/partners to evaluate and select appropriate infrastructure services or technologies. Act as a point of contact for technical discussions related to infrastructure services. Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations, security standards, and industry best practices in all aspects of infrastructure management. Assure 3rd parties have identified and mitigated risks related to infrastructure services and fully implemented backup and disaster recovery strategies to safeguard data integrity and ensure security, minimizing downtime. Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify potential risks or vulnerabilities and implement mitigation plans. Tactically assesses and implement appropriate risk controls to mitigate potential threats, will be responsible for maintaining key risks indicators and ensuring British Council operate services within the specified risk appetite. Ensure 3rd parties continually perform database tuning and optimisation, analysing query execution plans and identifying areas for improvement. maintain database monitoring and reporting mechanisms to track performance metrics and identify trends or anomalies. generate reports and insights from database analytics to support decision-making and drive continuous improvement. continually monitor infrastructure performance metrics and provide analysis and recommendations for improvement. generate reports and insights on storage capacity utilisation, backup success rates, and performance trends. identify areas for optimisation and cost reduction in storage and backup operations. Manage the budget and financial aspects related to infrastructure projects, ensuring cost optimisation and adherence to financial guidelines. Ensure 3rd parties are compliant with contractual Azure, AD, AAD, Storage, Database, and Infrastructure services obligations. Evaluate and recommend cost-effective infrastructure solutions and resource allocation strategies. Monitor license agreements, subscriptions, and usage to maximize ROI and optimise licensing costs. Support the development of user requirement specification for database development and maintenance. Operational management of the Managed Services Provider, ensuring delivery to the contract of all infrastructure services – both Azure and on-site based Server, AD, Azure AD, Database, Storage, Backup, and other infrastructure services in scope to drive continual improvement and value for money. Provide technical leadership and guidance to infrastructure services and respective teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture in a team environment. Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies related to infrastructure services and technologies, guiding the team through technological advancements and innovation. Requirements Of The Role Previous experience in a leadership or managerial role, overseeing 3rd party service providers working in a complex and large global organisation. In-depth knowledge of database licensing management and approaches. Strong experience in database administration and Azure database services. Windows and Azure Active Directory Expert. Strong troubleshooting experience on Windows 2008, 2012 and 2016 environment. Strong understanding of Azure cloud platform and its technologies (such as SaaS, IaaS, PaaS, etc.), with expertise in its core services, along with hands-on experience in deploying and managing databases on Azure. Proficiency in SQL, including query optimization, indexing, and data manipulation. Familiarity with database security principles and experience implementing security measures in Azure environments. Experience in designing and implementing storage and backup solutions in Azure and local sites where required. Proficiency in Azure storage services, including Blob, File, Queue, and Table storage. Familiarity with data management practices and compliance requirements. Understanding of infrastructure-as-code (IaC) concepts and tools. In-depth knowledge of licensing management and approaches. Experience in creating, communicating, and delivering to Vision, Strategy, Blueprints and Roadmaps. Knowledge and experience of implementing FinOps practices and real time decision making in cloud consumption models. Knowledge of FinOps cost optimization recommendations, enable cost saving reporting/governance, and propose best practices for tagging and anomaly detection. A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or software engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience. Knowledge of cloud computing, server administration, AD, Azure AD, database management systems, SQL, storage and backup systems, and related technologies. This can be gained through coursework or practical experience. Written and verbal proficiency in English is required.
