Job Title: Sr. Manager/Director/Head of Engineering – Backend

Key Responsibilities:

• Technical Strategy & Architecture:

  Define and drive the backend technology roadmap in alignment with hoichoi’s business and product strategies. Lead architectural decisions for highly available and scalable backend systems.

• Team Leadership:

  Build, mentor, and lead a team of backend engineers, engineering managers, and technical leads. Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, innovation, and accountability.

• Cloud Infrastructure Oversight:

  Guide the strategic use of AWS cloud infrastructure (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, API Gateway, CloudFront, CloudWatch, etc.) to ensure operational excellence, cost-efficiency, and performance optimization.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  Partner with Product, Design, Infrastructure, and Business teams to align technology solutions with product vision and user needs. Translate business challenges into scalable technical strategies.

• Platform Scalability & Reliability:

  Ensure backend systems can scale to support growing user demands, while maintaining high reliability, low latency, and fault tolerance.

• Innovation & Technology Leadership:

  Evaluate emerging technologies and tools. Drive adoption of modern engineering practices and frameworks that improve delivery and technical depth.

Skills & Experience:

• Experience:

  10+ years of experience in backend engineering, with at least 3+ years in engineering leadership roles managing teams and delivering high-scale distributed systems.

• Leadership:

  Proven success leading engineering teams, setting technical direction, and mentoring senior engineers and managers in high-growth environments.

• Cloud Expertise:

  Deep experience with AWS infrastructure and services (EC2, Lambda, RDS, etc.) and building cloud-native applications with a focus on scalability and cost optimization.

• Technical Proficiency:

  Strong background in backend technologies such as Node.js, Express.js, MongoDB, RESTful APIs, and CI/CD pipelines. Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.

• Strategic Thinking:

  Ability to align technology with business outcomes and scale engineering teams and systems accordingly.

• Process Excellence:

  Expertise in modern software development practices, including Agile methodologies, continuous integration/deployment, and DevOps.

• Security & Compliance:

  Understanding of security best practices in distributed systems, including IAM, data privacy, and cloud security compliance.

• Analytical & Problem Solving:

  Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify, diagnose, and resolve performance and scalability issues.

• Communication & Influence:

  Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence and drive consensus across diverse stakeholders.
