Job Description

Job Title: Database Administrator (DBA)

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, maintain, and optimize our organization’s software databases. The DBA will ensure the availability, performance, integrity, and security of databases used by our software applications and platforms. You will work closely with software developers, DevOps, and system architects to support ongoing development and ensure data-driven software reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, install, configure, and maintain relational and non-relational database systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB).
Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies to optimize speed and efficiency.
Ensure data security, integrity, and high availability through regular backups, disaster recovery planning, and access control management.
Collaborate with software engineers to design database schemas that support application logic and scalability.
Automate routine database tasks using scripts or tools to reduce manual workload.
Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including slow queries, connection problems, and data inconsistencies.
Maintain documentation related to database configurations, schemas, procedures, and policies.
Apply database patches, upgrades, and conduct migrations as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
3–5+ years of hands-on experience as a DBA in a software development or enterprise IT environment.
Proficiency in SQL and experience with one or more major database platforms (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server).
Understanding of database architecture, normalization, indexing, and query optimization.
Experience with database backup, recovery, and replication techniques.
Familiarity with software development processes and version control (e.g., Git).

Preferred Skills:

Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra).
Knowledge of cloud database services (e.g., Amazon RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL).
Scripting experience in Python, Shell, or PowerShell for automation.
Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Nagios, Datadog).
Understanding of DevOps and CI/CD integration for database changes.

Soft Skills:

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
High attention to detail and a proactive approach to preventing issues.
