We are seeking a seasoned High-Performance Computing (HPC) professional to join Microsoft’s Silicon Development Compute Solutions (SDCS) team, embedded within the broader silicon engineering organization. As a Senior Linux Systems Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, deploying, and managing scalable, Linux-based compute infrastructure that supports silicon design workloads.

This role is central to ensuring the availability, performance, and efficiency of HPC services that power Microsoft’s silicon innovation. You will work closely with CAD, Operations, Engineering, and cross-functional teams to deliver resilient and high-performing infrastructure solutions that meet the demands of a globally distributed design organization.

• 7+ Years’ Linux License Server Administration (required).
• 3+ Years’ system automation experience using some scripting language such as Shell, Perl, or Python (required).
• BA/BS in Computer Science, Management of Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
• Solid understanding of networking, systems administration, automation, and monitoring (preferred).
• Excellent written and verbal communications (preferred).
• Understanding of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) concepts (preferred).
• Experience with cloud platforms like Azure, Google, AWS (preferred)

• Administer and optimize Linux environments (Red Hat, Rocky Linux, etc.) across on-premises and Azure cloud infrastructure, including installation, configuration management, patching, and troubleshooting.
• Help manage engineering services, including display technologies (Exceed TurboX, VNC, VDI) and authentication platforms (RHDS, RHIDM, FreeIPA), ensuring high availability, performance, and user satisfaction.
• Collaborate with the storage team to design, implement, and maintain Isilon, Pure, and Azure NetApp Files (ANF) standards for the Linux environment.
• Implement and maintain monitoring and alerting systems to ensure system reliability, performance, and proactive issue resolution.
• Partner with Engineering and CAD teams to solve complex technical challenges, drive innovation, and optimize compute and storage performance for design workloads.
• Develop and maintain detailed documentation for system configurations, operational procedures, and support processes.
• Mentor junior team members, providing technical guidance and fostering a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence.
• Communicate effectively across global teams, demonstrating strong written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
