Role Description Job Title: iSeries/AS400 Developer – Application Development and Solutions Support Roles And Responsibilities We are seeking a talented and creative iSeries/AS400 Developer to join our team, providing Application Development and Solutions Support for one of the leading wholesale retailers in the United States. The ideal candidate should be capable of working creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with domain experts and the IT leadership team. Key Responsibilities Analyze and develop iSeries code that supports various applications in the retail domain. Create functional specifications for supported applications using standard practices, processes, and procedures. Perform code reviews, conduct unit testing, and collaborate with the development team to ensure smooth development and QA processes. Adhere to the client’s IS division development standards, deployment processes, and procedures. Work closely with the Product Owner, business area teams, and QA to ensure that requirements are clearly defined, understood, and documented. Participate in development estimation, deployment, and release planning to ensure timely and successful delivery of solutions. Provide 2nd level support for incident ticket resolutions, including the creation of Knowledge Base (KB) articles for 1st level support and providing on-call assistance as needed. Focus on personal growth by staying up-to-date with evolving technology, business knowledge, and client policies. Conduct peer reviews on source code to ensure it is reusable, scalable, and adheres to best practices. Engage in collaborative technical discussions regarding software user experience, design, architecture, and development. Requirements Must-Have Skills: iSeries/AS400 Programming: Excellent programming skills on the iSeries platform, including the ability to analyze and create new programs using RPG, RPG ILE, SQLRPGLE, and Control Language (CLP/CLLE). SQL Knowledge: Proficiency in analyzing and modifying complex SQL queries, embedded SQL in SQLRPGLE, and cursor programming. Database Concepts: Experience creating and analyzing physical files, logical files, SQL tables, indexes, views, and stored procedures. Screen Programming: Knowledge of display files, subfiles, and printer files. Business Rules Documentation: Ability to document business rules effectively and create data mapping documents after analyzing program flows and data flows. ILE Programming: Experience with analyzing and creating program modules, binding directories, and service programs. MQ & XML Integration: Working knowledge of MQ, MQ Trigger, and embedding XML tags in RPG programs. Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, with the ability to independently manage project tasks through effective collaboration with analysts at the client site. Good-to-Have Skills Turnover Knowledge: Familiarity with Turnover, a code configuration management tool. X-Analysis Knowledge: Understanding of X-Analysis, a cross-reference tool for iSeries. Triggers & Message Queuing: Knowledge of triggers and message queuing for inter-program and inter-system communication. ROBOT Job Scheduler: Experience with the ROBOT job scheduler for creating and setting up scheduled jobs in iSeries. Database Design Knowledge: Understanding of normalized, denormalized tables, and star schema databases. iSeries Navigator: Working knowledge of iSeries Navigator for running queries and analyzing the performance of SQL queries. Retail Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with the retail domain, including areas like Lawson ERP, finance, and membership management. Qualifications Proven experience as an iSeries/AS400 Developer or in a similar role. Strong problem-solving and creative thinking skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Familiarity with retail applications is a plus.
