to connect them with exceptional tech professionals for this role.he Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and developing a cross-functional team of engineers across one or more Squads or Tribes. This includes ownership of delivery outcomes, people development, and continuous improvement of engineering practices.
The role requires strong, hands-on leadership; a deep interest in engineering and people; and a data-informed, delivery-focused mindset. The Engineering Manager will work closely with the Heads of Engineering and key stakeholders—including Product teams—to drive high performance, alignment, and a culture of continuous improvement across teams.Key Responsibilities
- Line management of engineers across disciplines (e.g. Backend, Frontend, QA, DevOps), including mentoring, performance management, and career development
- End-to-end delivery responsibility for programmes across assigned Squads/Tribes, ensuring delivery is aligned to business priorities and quality expectations
- Partner with Heads of Engineering and other engineering managers to define and refine engineering processes, tooling, and team structures
- Work directly with Product teams to ensure delivery goals are aligned, collaborative, and efficient
- Use DORA and SPACE metrics to identify opportunities for improving delivery velocity, team health, developer experience, and system reliability
- Promote and uphold engineering best practices across teams, including documentation, technical standards, and quality assurance
- Utilise team and individual metrics to support fair, transparent performance management, including setting clear goals and measurable targets aligned with engineering and business outcomes
- Actively support recruitment and onboarding, including interviewing and process improvement.
- Represent engineering in broader organisational contexts, including cross-functional meetings, leadership forums, and internal/external presentations
About You
- Proven leadership of high-performing engineering teams across multiple disciplines and levels of experience including effective performance management
- Delivery focussed with an ability to drive teams to high quality output
- Proficient in at least one modern programming language (e.g. PHP, Python etc), with a solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals
- Strong experience working in agile environments using Scrum and/or Kanban methodologies
- Hands-on experience using and interpreting DORA and SPACE metrics to guide delivery and team improvements
- Effective communication skills with the ability to influence across engineering, Product teams, and other stakeholders
- Comfortable with public speaking and advocating for engineering principles and practices
- Strong collaborative mindset with a focus on alignment, outcomes, and continuous improvement
- Experience managing complex, cross-team programme delivery involving multiple workstreams and dependencies

Interview process
- Once your CV has been shortlisted by our People Team, we will be in touch to schedule a 20-30 minute introductory call. This will be a chance for you to ask any initial questions, learn more about us and the role as well as us learning more about your search and experience.
- Our 1st stage interview takes place with 2 Support Team Leads online - we use Google Meet for the majority of our video interviews. This will be 1 hour long, covering competency and scenario based questions for us to understand your experience further but also a chance for you to learn more about what you might be doing day to day.
- We would be keen to invite you in-person for our final stage interview will be a video call and will include a short role play task. The conversation will also focus around our values and mission as all Arbor employees are very much aligned to our impact led mission!
