Backend Developer – E-commerce & Web Applications

Company Overview:

Our sister company is a fast-growing personalized vitamin and supplement platform based in Europe, committed to delivering customized wellness solutions via smart digital experiences. As we expand our backend infrastructure to support advanced e-commerce and personalization features, we are seeking a Backend Developer to strengthen our digital stack.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend components of our e-commerce platforms and web applications.
• Enhance and optimize existing Java-based microservices and REST APIs.
• Collaborate with frontend developers and data engineers to ensure seamless data integration and application performance.
• Manage and structure databases using MySQL/PostgreSQL and optimize query performance.
• Implement secure APIs and ensure compliance with data protection and coding best practices.
• Conduct system integrations with third-party services (e.g., payment gateways, CRM, email automation).
• Support DevOps processes including CI/CD (GitLab pipelines), containerization (Docker), and deployment.
• Monitor and debug application performance, reliability, and security.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical documentation.
• Maintain secure coding standards (e.g., prevention of SQL Injection, XSS, CSRF).
• Ensure scalability and maintainability of backend architecture.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field or higher.
• 3–5 years of professional experience as a backend or full-stack developer with a strong backend focus.
• Fluent in English, with the ability to collaborate across EU and US time zones.

Proficiency in:

Languages & Frameworks:

• Java (Spring Boot, Spring Framework)
• Node.js
• Python 3
• Dropwizard

Databases:

• MySQL / PostgreSQL
• PL/SQL

API Development & Integration:

• RESTful APIs
• Secure token-based authentication (JWT, OAuth)

DevOps & Tools:

• GitLab, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes
• Google Cloud Platform (GCP) preferred

Security Knowledge:

• HTTPS, TLS, RBAC
• SQL Injection, XSS, CSRF protection
• Web Application Firewall (WAF) practices

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with frontend technologies (HTML, CSS, Angular, JavaScript) for integration testing.
• Working knowledge of WordPress and Webflow for integration tasks (no design skills required).
• Experience with SEO-related backend considerations.
• Familiarity with Shopify’s backend APIs or similar platforms.
• Dutch language skills are a bonus.
• Strong communication and time-management skills.
