Position Summary:

The Genuine Student (GS) Assessment Team Leader (Offshore) is responsible for the Genuine Student (GS) status assessment of international applicants from identified high-risk source countries. The role ensures that assessments are consistent, compliant, and timely, supporting the University’s international recruitment strategy while safeguarding its compliance with the ESOS Act, National Code, and Department of Home Affairs guidelines. The position works closely with key internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure high quality, defensible decision-making and excellent applicant experience. Page 2 The role reports to the Admissions Processing Manager and has no direct reports.


Accountabilities:

•      Oversee the end-to-end GS assessment process in line with ESOS Act, National Code, and Department of Home Affairs guidelines.

•      Provide expert guidance to team members on complex or borderline cases, including escalation decisions and documentation verification.

•      Develop and maintain GS procedures and risk settings for relevant source countries, in consultation with the Admissions Processing Manager.

•      Analyse trends in applicant risk profiles, agent performance, visa grant/refusal rates and fraud patterns to inform continuous improvement and policy updates.

•      Act as a point of contact for internal stakeholders regarding GS decisions and risk strategies. • Contribute to system and process enhancements, including development of templates, workflows, and reporting dashboards.

•      Facilitate training and capability-building for new and existing staff in GS risk assessment, including updates to policy, visa regulations, and fraud detection.

•      Represent the Admissions team in working groups and meetings with internal and external stakeholders as required.

•      Ensure documentation and decisions are auditable and compliant with University, Home Affairs and TEQSA requirements.

•      Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values

•      Cooperate with all the health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.

•      Ensure hazards and risks psychosocial and physical are identified and controlled for tasks, projects, and activities that pose a health and safety risk within your area of responsibility.


Skills and Experience:

•      A bachelor’s degree OR Certificate level qualification with post-certificate relevant work experience OR an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.

•      Substantial experience in international admissions, compliance, visa processing, or a related field within the higher education or international education sector, preferably in Australian universities.

•      Deep understanding of the Genuine Student (GS) framework, student visa subclass 500 requirements, and associated legislative and regulatory obligations (e.g. ESOS Act, National Code).

•      High-level analytical and decision-making skills, including the ability to interpret complex information and assess risk within tight timelines and in accordance with policy.

•      Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to engage diplomatically with diverse stakeholders including agents, prospective students, and academic staff.

•      Proven ability to contribute to business process improvement, policy development, and system enhancement initiatives.

•      Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality and regulatory compliance.

•      Proficiency in student management and admissions systems and confidence with data analysis tools.

•      Understanding of geopolitical risk factors and regional nuances in high-risk countries for international student recruitment.

•      Previous experience in case assessment or fraud prevention.

•      Familiarity with university-level strategic internationalization objectives and how GS processes align.

•      An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.

•      Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.


Other Information:

•      Employment is directly with the University’s Wholly Owned Subsidiary – UNSW Global India Pvt Ltd, having registered office in Nehru Place, New Delhi.

•      Salary is competitive and based on experience level.

•      Pre-employment checks are required and there will be verification of qualifications.

•      The role provides flexible working but requires working from the office for at least 3 days a week.
