QA Performance Engineer

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:

The QA Performance Engineer provides value to the organization by adding performance testing as a new capability within the eCommerce agile Product Team. They will be responsible for establishing the performance testing capability by identifying and implementing the tools, processes, and standards for performance testing. Additionally, they will be responsible to monitor key performance indicators like Google’s Core Web Metrics to help the team prioritize performance issues.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

• Establish the performance/load testing capability within the organization.
• Combine established software automated performance testing strategies with emerging technology trends.
• Perform load, volume, stress, and scalability testing of each application and analyze performance test results.
• Analyze, design, and develop performance scripts to ensure the delivery of quality software applications.
• Prioritize creation of test cases for performance based on risk and ROI.
• Participate in manual testing activities as needed.
• Perform performance test executions.
• Verify and validate functionality by evaluating software against system requirements.
• Identify and document defects using reproducible test cases.
• Participate in the creation, maintenance and management of automated test scripts and test execution.
• Adhere to QA standards, automation standards, and industry best practices in the development and maintenance of automated test scripts.
• Write and maintain comprehensive test plans and reports.
• Communicate critical issues and status updates with stakeholders in a timely and proactive manner.
• Builds and maintains relationships cross-functionally to stay current with the needs and operations of the business functional areas supported.
• Keeps manager informed of important developments, potential problems, and related information necessary for effective management. Coordinates and communicates plans and activities with others, as appropriate to ensure a coordinated work effort and team approach.
• Performs related work as apparent or assigned.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in working with technical and non-technical people.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related discipline, or related experience.
• At least 6 years of experience working with automation testing including UI automation and Performance testing tools on web-based applications.
• At least 4 years of experience working with web site performance testing required.
• Experience in performance analysis such as Database tuning and UI tuning.
• Expertise in debugging performance related issues and bottlenecks using a combination of log analysis, code analysis and tools like JMeter are key success factors required.
• Strong hardware and software debugging skills, such as understanding concepts related to caching, rate limiting, memory utilization, GC, CPU cycles, network throughput.
• Strong programming experience with OOO programming language such as Java or any common scripting language.
• Experience in root cause analysis of performance issues using diagnostic tools like Jprofiler or JProbe.
• Experience using any leading monitoring tools like AppDynamics, Dynatrace, JVisualVM, Splunk, etc.,
• A strong working knowledge of HTTP/HTTPS protocols.
• Knowledge on API/Webservices Testing (SOAP, REST, FTP, JSON or similar).
• Knowledge on operating system concepts and how they relate back to applications, containers, and Kubernetes.
• Experience with Enterprise Java Applications and new data transformation technologies.
• Ability to work independently on a given task with little to minimum assistance and within the framework of a team.
• Knowledge of the principles, practices and processes of quality assurance testing and the ability to
• apply knowledge and skills to a range of professional assignments.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of company personnel.
