This job is a member of the Operations Research and Advanced Analytics (OR&AA) team. Positioned within the Information Technology organization, the OR&AA team at American Airlines has a long history of being on the leading edge of analytics in the airline domain. Nearly four decades ago we launched the revenue management revolution with our yield management strategy. Today our diverse team of passionate analytics professionals supports decision making across the airline, including pricing and revenue management, fleet and network optimization, crew and flight scheduling, airport and maintenance operations and customer/social media analytics. What you will do:

As part of the OR&AA team, you will lead a team of Engineers, Operations Research and Data Science professionals responsible for delivering advanced analytics solutions to one or more business organizations within American Airlines. This role blends technical leadership, people management, and strategic alignment to drive innovation and operational excellence.

• Provide technical leadership for analytical and optimization solutions that improve decision-making and operational efficiency.
• Drive innovation and adoption of OR and Advanced Analytics across the organization.
• Champion delivery transformation and emerging technology adoption to enhance analytics capabilities.
• Build and mentor a high-performing team of engineers, OR scientists, and data scientists.
• Develop team capabilities through coaching, mentoring, and growth opportunities.
• Oversee staffing, performance management, and career development aligned with Agile principles.
• Manage a portfolio of analytics and technical projects, ensuring timely delivery and stakeholder alignment.
• Collaborate with business leaders to align OR&AA initiatives with strategic goals.
• Foster cross-functional collaboration and maintain open communication across teams and leadership.
• Support Agile delivery by removing impediments and enabling self-governing teams.
• Contribute to technology, product, and people decisions across the product lifecycle.
• Lead continuous improvement of policies, procedures, and solutions impacting customers and frontline teams.
• Manage production support and off-hours coordination as needed.
• Guide the development of industry-leading analytical models, tools, and systems that enhance business processes.
• Help the team extract insights from data and communicate findings to business stakeholders.
• Promote technical and analytical upskilling through education and measurable programs.
• Provide technical leadership and vision for analytical and optimization solutions that enhance business decision-making and operational efficiency.
• Champion delivery transformation initiatives to deliver technology and analytics solutions more effectively.
• Lead innovation and drive adoption of Operations Research and Advanced Analytics capabilities across the organization.
• Promote the use of industry-leading technology trends and continuously assess organizational needs and areas for improvement.

All you will need for success:

Minimum Qualifications:

Education & Prior Job Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, ?or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
• 9+ years of experience participating in delivery of solutions using ITIL / Agile / XP, or similar methodologies

Preferred Qualifications:

Education & Prior Job Experience:

• Airline industry experience, including engineering / business processes and supporting technology

Skills, Licenses, and Certifications:

• Experience deploying optimization, AI/ML models, and developing algorithms
• Proficient in Java, Python, C++; familiar with CI/CD pipelines, APIs, and Kubernetes
• Strong foundation in applied mathematics, machine learning, and operations research
• Effective stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration
• Strong people leadership with a focus on mentoring and team development
• Proven ability to lead multiple projects and work streams in Agile environments
• Excellent communicator, skilled at presenting to executive leadership
• Organized, adaptable, and able to prioritize in fast-paced settings
• Upholds technology standards to ensure resiliency and continuous improvement
• Basic financial acumen for budgeting and forecasting
