Job Summary

The

Instrumentation Engineer

in the dairy industry is responsible for designing, installing, calibrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting instrumentation and control systems used in dairy processing plants. The role ensures optimal performance of equipment, compliance with safety and quality standards, and improved efficiency in production processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instrumentation & Control System Management
  • Design, install, and commission instrumentation and control systems for dairy processing equipment.
  • Calibrate sensors, flow meters, temperature probes, pressure gauges, and other measurement devices.
  • Develop and implement control strategies for automated dairy processing operations.
  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance of instruments to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Diagnose and repair faults in control systems, PLCs, SCADA, and other automation equipment.
  • Ensure accurate measurement of parameters like temperature, pressure, flow, pH, and conductivity.
  • Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure all instruments and control systems comply with dairy industry standards, including FSSAI, GMP, HACCP, ISO, and FDA.
  • Maintain documentation of instrument calibration, maintenance schedules, and compliance reports.
  • Assist in audits by regulatory authorities and provide necessary technical details.
  • Process Optimization & Automation
  • Work with production and quality teams to optimize dairy processing through automation.
  • Support digitalization efforts, including IoT-enabled smart monitoring solutions.
  • Identify areas for improvement in instrumentation to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Safety & Training
  • Ensure adherence to workplace safety protocols related to electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Train plant operators and maintenance staff on proper use and handling of instrumentation.
  • Support risk assessments related to process control and automation systems.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics & Instrumentation, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3-7 years in instrumentation and control systems, preferably in dairy or food processing.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Experience with PLC, SCADA, HMI, VFDs, and industrial automation systems.
    • Knowledge of flow meters, pressure transmitters, RTDs, pH analyzers, and load cells.
    • Familiarity with control panel wiring and electrical drawings.
    • Understanding of calibration procedures and metrology.
  • Software Proficiency: AutoCAD, MATLAB, and industrial control software.
  • Certifications: ISA Certification, HACCP Training, or any relevant industry certification (preferred).
