PostgreSQL Database Administrator

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL databases across multiple environments (Dev/Test/Prod).
• Manage database security, integrity, and backup procedures.
• Design and implement robust backup and recovery solutions.
• Monitor database performance and proactively tune SQL queries and server configurations.
• Create and maintain database objects including tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, and triggers.
• Implement effective indexing and partitioning strategies to improve performance and scalability.
• Collaborate with development teams for schema design, query optimization, and application support.
• Plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, and patch management.
• Maintain high availability and disaster recovery setups.
• Automate routine DBA tasks using shell scripts or Python.
• Prepare and maintain documentation including SOPs, architecture diagrams, and incident reports.
• Provide on-call support and resolve critical database issues as needed.

Required Skills and Experience:

• 9–12 years of proven experience as a PostgreSQL DBA in large-scale enterprise environments.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture and internals.
• Deep understanding of database design, performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
• Hands-on experience in implementing backup and disaster recovery solutions.
• Expertise in performance monitoring tools (e.g., pg_stat_statements, pgBadger).
• Proficiency with scripting languages (Bash, Python, or similar) for automation.
• Experience with replication (logical/streaming), partitioning, and connection pooling.
• Familiarity with Linux/Unix systems and cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle high-pressure situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification in PostgreSQL administration or cloud-based database services.
• Experience with tools like Ansible, Terraform, or other infrastructure-as-code technologies.
• Exposure to other database technologies like MySQL or Oracle is a plus.
