Job Description

Position Overview:

The Dean of the Faculty of Design is a visionary academic leader responsible for shaping the strategic direction, academic excellence, and creative output of the design faculty. This role demands a combination of academic distinction, administrative expertise, industry engagement, and commitment to innovation in design education. The Dean will oversee programs across areas such as graphic design, product design, fashion design, interior design, UX/UI, and emerging fields in digital and interdisciplinary design.


Key Responsibilities:

• Academic Leadership:

◦ Provide strategic leadership and direction to all academic programs within the Faculty of Design.

◦ Drive curriculum innovation to align with industry trends and global best practices.

◦ Ensure academic quality, research excellence, and creative output across all departments.

• Faculty Development:

◦ Recruit, mentor, and support faculty members to achieve excellence in teaching, research, and practice.

◦ Foster a collaborative and inclusive academic environment that encourages experimentation and thought leadership.

• Strategic Planning & Administration:

◦ Develop and implement long-term strategic plans in alignment with institutional goals.

◦ Manage budgets, resources, and operational efficiency across departments.

◦ Lead accreditation and quality assurance processes.

• Industry & Community Engagement:

◦ Build strong relationships with industry partners, alumni, and cultural institutions.

◦ Facilitate internships, collaborative projects, and industry-led initiatives.

◦ Represent the faculty at national and international platforms.

• Research & Innovation:

◦ Promote interdisciplinary and practice-based research within the design field.

◦ Support faculty and students in securing grants, publishing, and showcasing their work globally.

• Student Experience:

◦ Ensure an inspiring and supportive learning environment.

◦ Champion diversity, equity, and student success across programs.


Qualifications & Experience:

• PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Design or a closely related field.

• At least 10–15 years of academic experience, including significant leadership roles (e.g., Head of Department, Associate Dean, etc.).

• Proven track record in academic administration, research, and/or industry practice.

• Strong understanding of global design trends, pedagogy, and interdisciplinary innovation.

• Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and manage change effectively.
