Description
The Dean of the Faculty of Design plays a crucial role as a visionary academic leader tasked with steering the strategic direction, academic excellence, and creative output of the design faculty. This position requires a blend of academic prowess, administrative proficiency, industry engagement, and a dedication to fostering innovation in design education. Overseeing a range of programs encompassing graphic design, product design, fashion design, interior design, UX/UI, and cutting-edge fields in digital and interdisciplinary design, the Dean shoulders a significant responsibility in shaping the future of design education. In terms of academic leadership, the Dean is entrusted with providing strategic guidance and supervision to all academic programs within the Faculty of Design. Driving curriculum enhancements to match industry dynamics and international best practices is a key aspect of the role. Upholding academic standards, research excellence, and fostering creative endeavors across various departments are fundamental responsibilities. The role also involves focusing on faculty development by recruiting, mentoring, and empowering faculty members to excel in teaching, research, and professional endeavors. Creating a collaborative and inclusive academic setting that fosters experimentation and encourages innovative thinking is paramount. Strategic planning and administration form a core part of the Dean's duties. Developing and executing long-term strategic plans aligned with institutional objectives, managing budgets, resources, and enhancing operational efficiency across departments, as well as leading accreditation and quality assurance procedures, are crucial aspects of the role. Establishing strong ties with industry partners, alumni, and cultural establishments, facilitating internships, collaborative projects, and industry-driven initiatives, and representing the faculty at local and international forums are key responsibilities related to industry and community engagement. Promoting interdisciplinary and practice-based research within the design realm, supporting faculty and students in obtaining grants, publishing, and showcasing their work globally, and ensuring an inspiring and nurturing learning atmosphere for students are pivotal in fostering research and innovation within the faculty. Moreover, championing diversity, equity, and student success across programs, the Dean is responsible for enhancing the student experience, thereby creating a conducive environment for learning and growth. In terms of qualifications and experience, the ideal candidate should possess a PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Design or a closely related field. A minimum of 10-15 years of academic experience, including significant leadership roles, a proven track record in academic administration, research, and/or industry practice, a profound understanding of global design trends, pedagogy, and interdisciplinary innovation, as well as demonstrated proficiency in leading diverse teams and managing change effectively are essential qualifications for this role.,
