Job Purpose OIEG is a Private Equity-backed, rapidly growing organisation that requires an experienced Data Engineer to support the operations within the Data function. As a data engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the assets and artefacts required for data storage, processing, and analysis. Your role will involve working within the data and analytics team, alongside business stakeholders to deliver data and analytics capabilities. The role will include end to end implementation with a focus on data engineering elements. The ideal person should be inquisitive and have an innovative approach, have a proactive and can-do attitude, be a good problem solver and be open to learning new skills. Key Responsibilities Design, implement, and maintain scalable Data Lake houses and Warehouses using best practices in cloud and distributed systems Build and orchestrate end-to-end data pipelines using Data Factory, Notebooks within Microsoft Fabric, and optimize, monitor, manage and maintain them. Transform data using SQL and Python/pySpark Develop robust ETL/ELT frameworks to extract, load, and transform data from APIs, databases, flat files, and third-party sources into Lake houses or Data Warehouses Ensure data reliability and integrity through automated quality checks, validation rules, and observability tooling. Implement and maintain documentation and metadata management practices for reproducibility and knowledge sharing Collaborate with BI Developers, Analysts, and Business Stakeholders to define data requirements and deliver analytics-ready datasets Person Specifications Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical discipline Experience Minimum of 4 years hands-on experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role, ideally in an Azure/ Fabric environment. Any Azure / Fabric certifications would be advantageous. Data Engineering, Data Transformation, Data Modelling BI Tools/Visualization Knowledge of Data Governance Data Engineering: Designing, building, and maintaining data/delta lakes/ DWH, data orchestration and ETL. Understanding of data architecture and design principals Any exposure to Fivetran or similar Data Acquisition tools or an understanding of them. Data modelling techniques using the Star/Kimbal methodology Knowledge of Power BI or similar tools and adept at telling stories through data and visualization. Source Control ideally have exposure to Azure DevOps, GitHub Skills Development of Lake houses/ DWHs ideally within an Azure/Fabric Environment Fabric/Azure Data Factory/ Synapse Analytics/ Dataflows Gen2 or similar tools such as Data Bricks; or similar ETL/ Data acquisition tools Proficient in Python/ pySpark for data engineering that includes scripting, automation, and building transformation logic. Advanced knowledge of SQL/ T-SQL, including query optimization, stored procedures, and indexing strategies.
