Job Purpose/ Summary

The Manager – Tool Room is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the tool room Pilger Plant & Press, ensuring the availability, maintenance, and readiness of all tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures required for production and maintenance activities. This role involves leading a team of toolmakers and technicians, managing inventory, coordinating with production and maintenance departments, and ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and efficiency standards. The manager also plays a key role in continuous improvement initiatives, cost control, and supporting new product development by providing tool engineering expertise.

The role requires strong technical knowledge in tool design and fabrication, leadership ability to manage skilled technicians, and coordination skills to liaise with design, maintenance, and production teams. The Tool Room Manager ensures high availability and quality of tools to support uninterrupted production and product quality.

Principal Accountabilities

Key Responsibilities

Manage tool room staff, including toolmakers, machinists, and technicians. Oversee the design, manufacturing, maintenance, and modification of tools, jigs, dies, molds, and fixtures. Ensure timely availability of tools for production and maintenance operations. Maintain tool inventory, handle procurement of consumables and tool components. Implement preventive maintenance schedules and documentation for all tools. Work closely with R&D and production engineering for new tool development and prototyping. Maintain quality control standards and ensure adherence to specifications. Implement cost-saving initiatives through tool life improvement and optimization. Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements in tool room operations. Identify and implement continuous improvement practices (Lean, 5S, Kaizen.. Provide technical support in troubleshooting tool-related issues on the shop floor.
