Job Title: Veterinary Technical Officer Organization: The Goat Trust Location: Project Area Duration: Full-time / Contractual (initially for 1 year, extendable based on performance) Reports To: Project Director Remuneration: ₹37,500 per month (consolidated) About The Goat Trust: The Goat Trust is a pioneer organization promoting goat-based and small livestock livelihoods to strengthen rural economies, especially for poor women. We work through institution building, training, and enterprise models to promote sustainable, community-led livestock practices. Position Overview: The Veterinary Technical Officer will provide hands-on animal health support, capacity-building for Pashu Sakhis and farmers, and technical leadership for goat-based enterprise development. The role involves both clinical and community outreach responsibilities. Key Responsibilities: 1. Animal Health Services Provide preventive and curative health care services for goats and small livestock. Conduct regular deworming, vaccination, and disease surveillance camps in villages. Guide construction of scientific goat shelters and feeding practices. 2. Capacity Building & Training Train and mentor community animal health workers (Pashu Sakhis) and farmers on goat health, breeding, feeding, and management. Prepare training modules, IEC materials, and technical handbooks as needed. 3. Monitoring & Field Support Maintain detailed records of health interventions, mortality rates, breeding patterns, and productivity. Conduct field visits for diagnostics, treatment, and follow-up. 4. Technical Inputs in Planning Provide input into project planning for breeding programs, health protocols, and goat insurance models. Assist in selecting and managing breeding bucks, AI interventions (if any), and record keeping. 5. Coordination & Reporting Work closely with project teams, block coordinators, and local government veterinary departments. Submit timely technical reports, case studies, and success stories from the field. Qualifications: Bachelor’s in Veterinary Science (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) or Diploma in Veterinary Sciences with strong field experience. Registration with the Veterinary Council (preferred). Minimum 3–5 years of experience in goat/sheep or livestock health, especially in rural setups. Desired Skills & Competencies: Proficiency in field diagnostics and animal treatment Good communication and training skills Experience working with community institutions like SHGs, FPOs, Pashu Sakhis Knowledge of local language(s) and rural context Basic computer literacy (Word, Excel, report writing) Travel Requirement: Extensive field travel to project villages as per need.
