DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

The Quality Inspector – Level II ensures that incoming parts and finished products meet Cummins’ rigorous technical and quality standards. Operating under moderate supervision, this role is responsible for conducting inspections, identifying non-conformances, documenting deviations, and supporting continuous quality improvements in both manufacturing and supplier processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Quality Inspection:
  • Verify final quality of components and assembled products on the production line.
  • Compare materials, equipment, and products to engineering specifications using standard and advanced measurement tools.
  • Perform incoming parts inspection and calibration activities.
  • Non-Conformance Management:
  • Identify, segregate, and document non-conforming products.
  • Track containment actions (Step 3/6) and product deviations.
  • Support problem resolution and corrective/preventive actions with cross-functional teams.
  • Auditing & Compliance:
  • Conduct regular product and process audits to verify compliance with internal standards.
  • Support Quality KPI tracking, reporting, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, quality, and environmental regulations.
  • Collaboration & Support:
  • Participate in TBWS (Team-Based Work System) and quality improvement teams.
  • Train operators and other team members in quality tools, measurement techniques, and inspection practices.
  • Coordinate effectively with suppliers, production, maintenance, and quality assurance teams.

Technical Competencies:

  • Measurement Science (Metrology):
  • Applies concepts in dimensional, mechanical, and optical measurement to ensure traceability and reliability.
  • Quality Process Management:
  • Applies APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, capability studies, and process audits effectively.
  • Laboratory Management (as applicable):
  • Supports lab functions while ensuring compliance with certification and calibration standards.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Technical diploma in quality or engineering is preferred.
  • Certifications:
  • May require certifications for export control compliance or specific quality tools.

Experience Requirements:

  • 2–5 years of relevant quality inspection experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience working with supplier quality, incoming inspection, or assembly verification is a plus.
  • Candidates should possess a diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electronics engineering, with 1 to 3 years of experience in quality assurance or quality control.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Technical Skills:
  • Use of measurement tools and techniques (e.g., micrometers, calipers, CMM, etc.).
  • Familiarity with calibration and inspection documentation systems.
  • Understanding of mechanical and assembly components.
  • Knowledge of safety and quality regulations (e.g., ISO/TS standards).
  • Data & Reporting:
  • Ability to track and report Quality KPIs and support MIS reporting.
  • Strong data management and documentation abilities.
  • Interpersonal & Organizational Skills:
  • Ability to multitask and coordinate with multiple departments.
  • Strong proactive mindset with good interpersonal and training skills.

Working Conditions:

  • May require working in manufacturing environments with exposure to noise, moving machinery, or other industrial conditions.
  • Shift work and extended hours may be required during high production periods.
  • Compliance with Cummins Safety and Quality policies is mandatory.
