Portal Developer – HCL DX & WAS

Role Overview

We are seeking a Portal Developer with strong experience in HCL Digital Experience and IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS). This role is responsible for developing robust portal components and integrating enterprise applications into a unified digital experience. The developer will work with both backend and frontend teams to create scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions across portal infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy portlets using JSR-168/286 standards in DX
  • Customize and maintain portal themes, skins, and navigation structures
  • Integrate enterprise systems via SOAP/REST APIs
  • Manage deployments, configuration, and tuning within WebSphere Application Server (WAS)
  • Collaborate on authentication and user management using LDAP/SSO
  • Troubleshoot performance and deployment issues
  • Work with DevOps for CI/CD enablement of portal apps
  • Contribute to portal upgrades, patches, and security compliance

Must-Have Skills

  • Strong expertise in HCL DX and WebSphere Portal Server
  • Java/J2EE, JSP, Servlets, and Web Services (REST/SOAP)
  • Familiarity with WAS (deployment, configuration, logs, tuning)
  • Hands-on experience with SSO integrations, LDAP, and security roles
  • WCM and workflow exposure within DX

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Docker/Kubernetes for DX containerization
  • WebSphere scripting and automation tools (wsadmin, jython)
  • Experience with enterprise content targeting

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Good documentation and stakeholder communication
  • Ability to work independently in a distributed team environment
