The Network Security Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure network infrastructures to protect organizational data and systems. This role involves assessing network vulnerabilities, managing firewalls, monitoring network traffic, and responding to security incidents. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, a proactive security mindset, and experience with enterprise-grade security tools.
Design and configure secure network architectures, including LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless.
Install, configure, and manage firewalls, routers, switches, and security appliances.
Implement intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS).
Monitor network activity for suspicious behavior and unauthorized access.
Respond to security breaches and investigate incidents.
Perform root cause analysis and implement mitigation measures.
Conduct regular network vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.
Remediate identified vulnerabilities in collaboration with IT and development teams.
Ensure compliance with security standards such as ISO 27001, NIST, or PCI-DSS.
Develop and enforce network security policies, standards, and procedures.
Maintain up-to-date documentation for network diagrams, configurations, and incident responses.
Educate staff on best practices and security protocols.
Automate repetitive network tasks using scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
Optimize network security configurations for performance and scalability.
Proficiency with network devices: Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto, etc.
Experience with firewalls, VPNs, proxies, and SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk, QRadar).
Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and SSL/TLS.
Familiarity with security protocols, network segmentation, and zero-trust architectures.
Scripting skills in Python, Bash, or PowerShell are a plus.
