Job Description

Job Title: Operations / Shift In-charge – Mining Level: M-08 / M-07 Function: Mining (Sagasahi Project) Location: Barbil, Odisha Company: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Limited 1. Job PurposeResponsible for supervising day-to-day mining shift operations to ensure safe, efficient, and productive performance. The role focuses on achieving operational targets while ensuring compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and statutory norms. 2. Reporting Structure Reports to: Mines Manager Role: Operations / Shift In-charge – Mining 3. Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement detailed safe work procedures. Oversee activities such as scheduling, drilling, blasting, excavation, and transportation. Monitor pit operations to ensure compliance with DGMS and other statutory safety norms. Ensure proper use and maintenance of PPE for workforce and equipment. Maintain safety, production, and operational documentation. Execute shift tasks and projects in line with contracts and deadlines. Maintain compliance with mining quality, safety, and environmental standards. Optimize resource use, manage shift performance, and control operational costs. Ensure compliance with Regulation 106(2b) of MMR-1961. Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and internal teams for seamless shift operations. Escalate operational issues or risks to the Line Manager promptly. 4. Key ChallengesEffective stakeholder management within internal and external teams. Delivering cost-effective, safe, and productive operations. 5. Key Decisions Made Independently by Role: Operational decisions related to lithology, shift deployment, logistics, and safety. Recommendations to Superior: Technical and process improvements for safe, cost-effective mining operations. 6. Cross-functional Interactions Internal: Geology, Logistics, IT, Security, Technical Services External: DGMS, Government Officials, MDOs, nearby mines, and equipment service providers 7. DimensionsFinancial Responsibility: Ensure shift operations remain within budgetary limits Team Size: As per organizational structure 8. Skills & KnowledgeEssential Qualifications: Diploma/Degree in Mining Engineering First Class Certificate of Competency (Mandatory) Desirable: Sound knowledge of Mines Act, MMR, and DGMS regulations Experience: 10–15 years of relevant experience in mining operations and shift management Functional Skills: Execution of mine plans in the field Cost forecasting and control in mining operations Strong understanding of statutory compliance, DGMS norms, and safety standards Behavioral Skills: Team management and leadership Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
