About the role:

DataLEADS is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Health Reporter to join our First Check team and play a crucial role in supporting its mission to verify health-related claims and combat misinformation. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with a diverse team of experts and gain hands-on experience in the field of health communication and fact-checking.

Key Responsibilities

• Research and execute engaging, accurate and informative health related news stories, long form features, and investigative stories in multimedia formats— text and visual— while meeting strict deadlines.
• Pitch original stories in multimedia formats and execute them in a timely manner.
• Develop and maintain sources in the health and healthcare sector, including the Union and state health ministries, and regulatory agencies.
  
• Conduct thorough research to verify the accuracy of health-related claims and information. This involves cross-referencing multiple reputable sources and databases to ensure the integrity of the information.
  
• Work closely with doctors, data scientists, and journalists to gather and analyse data for fact-checking purposes.
• Work closely with the social media team on managing First Check’s online presence, creating engaging content, monitoring interactions, and promoting published content.
• Stay updated on current health news trends and contribute to proactive strategies to address emerging issues.

Requirements:

• Minimum 2-3 years’ experience covering health as a beat for a newsroom.
• Minimum bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
• Proven track record of being able to build and maintain sources in health.
• Experience in working with multimedia formats, including shooting, scripting and editing visual stories, will be an added plus.
• Strong research and analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to critically evaluate sources.
• Proficiency in using online research tools and databases is essential.
• Familiarity with basic fact-checking and OSINT tools like Advanced Search, Google Lens, Google Trends.
• Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment and adapt to a fast-paced work setting.
