Plasma CNC Machine Supervisor

A Plasma Cutting Machine Supervisor oversees the operation of plasma cutting equipment and personnel, ensuring efficient and accurate metal cutting processes. This role involves setting up machines, programming them, maintaining quality control, and managing a team of operators. They also troubleshoot issues, optimize cutting parameters, and ensure safety procedures are followed. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Machine Setup and Operation:

• Supervising the setup and operation of CNC plasma cutting machines, ensuring they are properly calibrated and configured for specific cutting tasks. 

• Programming and Nesting:

• Developing and modifying CNC programs for plasma cutting, often using nesting software like Sigmatech to optimize material usage. 

• Quality Control:

• Ensuring that all cut parts meet specified dimensional accuracy, tolerances, and surface finish requirements. 

• Troubleshooting and Maintenance:

• Diagnosing and resolving issues with machines, programming, or materials, and coordinating with maintenance staff for repairs. 

• Safety Compliance:

• Enforcing safety protocols and procedures related to plasma cutting equipment, ensuring a safe working environment for all operators. 

• Team Management:

• Leading, training, and mentoring a team of plasma cutting machine operators, providing guidance and support to improve their skills and performance. 

• Inventory and Material Handling:

• Overseeing the proper storage, labeling, and handling of cutting nozzles and other consumables. 

• Process Improvement:

• Identifying opportunities to improve cutting processes, reduce waste, and enhance overall productivity. 

• Reporting and Documentation:

• Maintaining records of machine operations, nesting layouts, and cutting parameters. 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Technical Expertise:

• Strong understanding of CNC programming, plasma cutting technology, and material properties. 

• Software Proficiency:

• Familiarity with CAD/CAM software, including nesting programs like Starcam or OmniWin. 

• Problem-Solving:

• Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues related to plasma cutting equipment and processes. 

• Leadership and Communication:

• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively manage a team and communicate with other departments. 

• Safety Awareness:

• Thorough knowledge of safety regulations and best practices related to plasma cutting. 

• Physical Stamina:

• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform tasks that may involve physical exertion. 

• Experience:

• Relevant experience in a similar role, preferably with a background in metal fabrication or manufacturing.
