HR - Payroll and Appraisal Lead to join our client's team in Chennai.


Job Title: HR – Payroll and Appraisal Lead

Experience Required: 5+ years

Location: Chennai

Department: Human Development Management

Reports To: Head of HR


Job Summary:


We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced HR – Payroll and Appraisal Lead to oversee the payroll function and performance appraisal processes within the organization. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing end-to-end payroll operations and implementing/applying payroll ERP systems. You will play a critical role in ensuring compliance, accuracy, and timely execution of payroll, as well as driving performance management initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:


Payroll Management:


  • Manage and execute end-to-end payroll processing for all employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements (PF, ESI, TDS, gratuity, professional tax, etc.).
  • Maintain payroll data, salary structures, and deductions in the ERP/payroll software.
  • Reconcile payroll-related accounts and generate reports for Finance.
  • Handle employee queries related to salary, deductions, and tax components.
  • Collaborate with finance and audit teams during internal and external audits.


Payroll ERP System Management:


  • Operate and maintain payroll ERP systems
  • Configure payroll modules, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with vendors if needed.
  • Suggest improvements or automation opportunities within the payroll system.


Appraisal & Performance Management:


  • Drive and coordinate the annual and mid-year performance appraisal cycles.
  • Partner with line managers to ensure timely goal setting, performance reviews, and feedback sessions.
  • Analyze appraisal data and support HR in identifying high performers and development areas.
  • Support the implementation of competency frameworks and performance calibration sessions.


Qualifications & Skills:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience

    in payroll processing and performance management.
  • In-depth knowledge of Indian labor laws and statutory compliance related to payroll.
  • Experience with payroll ERP systems is a must

    (e.g., Odoo, GreytHR,, Zoho, etc.).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Certification in Payroll Management or related HR systems (nice to have).
  • Exposure to appraisal software or performance management tools.
  • Experience working in a mid-size to large organization.
