Job Description

We're Hiring: Chartering Manager – Dry Bulk (Mini & Small Carriers)

Key Responsibilities

Chartering & Fixture Execution

  • Source cargoes and fix vessels in the Small Handy and Mini Bulker segments
  • Negotiate voyage/time charter parties with charterers, Cargo owners, and brokers
  • Analyze voyage earnings, exposure to delays, and chartering risks
  • Maintain up-to-date market intelligence and identify optimal employment opportunities

Commercial Management & Voyage Planning

  • Prepare and analyze

    voyage estimations and freight returns (TCE, DAE, LAYCAN, ROB)

  • Monitor and ensure

    voyage profitability

    through cost control, speed optimization, and laytime management
  • Ensure smooth coordination between chartering, operations, technical, and finance departments
  • Assist in

    vessel scheduling

    to reduce ballast legs and port delays

Post-Fixture & Claims Management

  • Oversee laytime calculations, demurrage, and dispatch settlements
  • Coordinate with ship masters, agents, and port authorities for accurate documentation and laytime support
  • Liaise with P&I Clubs, legal counsel, and internal stakeholders for cargo claims, off-hire disputes, and CP disputes
  • Respond to and resolve minor and major commercial claims proactively and efficiently

Bunker Planning & Fuel Management

  • Coordinate with bunker suppliers to arrange timely and cost-effective bunker supply
  • Analyze fuel markets (IFO, VLSFO, LSMGO) and recommend strategic bunker procurement points
  • Work with operations to ensure fuel compliance with IMO regulations and commercial clauses
  • Track bunker ROB, fuel performance, and bunker claims/discrepancies

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Maintain strong working relationships with charterers, Traders, Cargo Owners, brokers, bunker traders, port agents, and insurance reps
  • Represent the company at shipping forums, industry events, and client meetings


Education, Experience & Skills Requirements


Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Marine Engineering, or related field
  • Candidates with a Master Mariner / Chief Mate license, or PG Diploma in Shipping or Chartering, will be preferred
  • MBA or specialized qualifications in Chartering / International Trade are a plus

Experience

  • 2–5 years of experience in dry bulk chartering—preferably with a ship owner/operator
  • Hands-on experience fixing mini and small bulk carriers (5,000–15,000 DWT)
  • Exposure to Asian/Middle East/European dry bulk markets
  • Experience working with freight calculation tools, laytime/demurrage settlement, bunker planning, and post-fixture support
  • Familiarity with cargo types like coal, clinker, Mineral, Logs, steel, grains, gypsum, etc.
  • Proven involvement in claims management will be highly regarded

Technical Skills

  • Deep knowledge of charter party clauses (NYPE, GENCON, ASBATIME, BIMCO templates)
  • Familiar with voyage estimation and management tools or Excel-based TCE models
  • Understanding of port operations, draft restrictions, cargo types, and regional logistics
  • Proficient in laytime/demurrage calculation, freight invoicing, and claims reporting
  • Working knowledge of bunker supply markets and IMO/MARPOL fuel compliance
