Role Summary
We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer with an engineering background to create high-quality technical and user documentation for our semiconductor manufacturing products. You will develop manuals, procedures, release notes, and online help content to support customers and service engineers. This role involves collaborating closely with engineers and product teams, managing documentation projects, and ensuring accuracy and clarity in all materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain technical and user documentation, including User Manuals, Upgrade Procedures, Factory Automation Manuals, Online Help, and Release Notes.
- Gather information through interviews with engineers, product managers, and end-users to translate complex technical content into clear, user-friendly documents.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and review documentation content, ensuring technical accuracy and usability.
- Support validation and testing of new procedures; update and improve content as needed.
- Follow industry best practices, templates, and company standards to produce consistent, high-quality documentation.
- Manage documentation projects, track tasks and actions, coordinate reviews, and provide regular status updates to stakeholders.
- Maintain strong communication across departments and manage conflicting stakeholder requirements to drive consensus.
- Adapt to changing priorities and support additional technical or project tasks as assigned.
- Participate in continuous learning to stay current on product technologies and documentation tools.
- Demonstrate professionalism and excellent English language skills to create error-free, globally understandable content.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- 2 to 8 years of experience in technical writing, preferably with product documentation for hardware service procedures in a multinational company.
- Strong proficiency with MS Word and Oxygen XML Editor; knowledge of DITA XML standard is highly desirable.
- Experience working in a complex matrix environment with multiple stakeholders and managing documentation projects effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to tailor content for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work flexibly across time zones and cultures, conduct remote meetings, and travel if required.
- Stability in previous roles (minimum 2 years in the same organization); no job-hopping.
- Candidates from product companies preferred; candidates from service companies must have worked with product clients/projects.
- Must NOT be currently employed with HCL.
Must-Haves
- Engineering background (Bachelors/Masters in Engineering/Physics/Mathematics).
- 2-8 years of technical writing experience (hardware or software, with willingness to write hardware documentation).
- Experience with DITA XML standard (high chance of interview success).
- Strong English communication skills (written and verbal).
- Job stability (min 2 years in one organization).
Nice-to-Haves
- Knowledge of additional documentation tools and industry standards.
- Experience in a global multinational environment.
Interview Process
- Round 1: Virtual interview.
- Round 2: In-person interview in Chennai (includes written test and remaining interview rounds in one day).
- Candidates must be willing to travel to Chennai for the in-person interview.
