About Arun Engineering: Arun Engineering is a leader in precision manufacturing, committed to innovation and excellence. We are establishing a state-of-the-art new plant in Chennai and are seeking highly experienced and skilled professionals to join our pioneering team. We offer a challenging yet rewarding environment where talent is recognized, and contributions drive our success.

Job Summary: Arun Engineering is looking for a highly experienced and accomplished Lead GDC Die Designer to join our new plant in Chennai. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in the design, manufacturing, and proving of Gravity Die Casting (GDC) dies. This role is critical to the success of our new facility, involving the complete lifecycle of GDC die development, from conceptual design through to successful production implementation and optimization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Die Design:
  • Lead the conceptualization, design, and development of complex GDC dies for various components, ensuring optimal material flow, solidification, and casting quality.
  • Utilize advanced CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, AutoCAD) to create detailed 2D and 3D die designs, including core boxes, mold inserts, ejector systems, cooling channels, and gating/riser systems.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of casting principles, metallurgy, and material properties to inform die design decisions.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and DFM (Design for Manufacturability) analyses to ensure designs are robust and cost-effective for production.
  • Manufacturing Expertise:
  • Provide expert guidance and collaborate closely with the manufacturing team during the machining and fabrication of GDC dies.
  • Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturing processes, considering tooling capabilities, machine clearances, and post-machining operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing-related issues pertaining to die components and assembly.
  • Die Proving & Optimization:
  • Oversee and actively participate in the proving and trial runs of new GDC dies, meticulously analyzing casting results.
  • Identify and diagnose casting defects (e.g., porosity, shrinkage, hot tears, cracks, misruns) and implement effective design modifications to eliminate or mitigate them.
  • Collaborate with the casting and quality teams to optimize die performance, improve yield, and enhance casting quality.
  • Document all proving activities, design changes, and lessons learned for future reference and continuous improvement.
  • Leadership & Mentorship:
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior designers and engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in GDC technology, materials, and design methodologies.
  • Contribute to the development of design standards, best practices, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for GDC die design and proving.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
  • Work cross-functionally with R&D, production, quality assurance, and maintenance teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers regarding die design specifications, progress, and challenges.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience specifically in GDC (Gravity Die Casting) die design, manufacturing, and proving.
  • Proven track record of successfully designing, developing, and optimizing GDC dies for high-volume production.
  • Expert proficiency in leading CAD software packages (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, AutoCAD).
  • Strong understanding of casting simulation software (e.g., MAGMA, FLOW-3D Cast, AnyCasting) is highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of various casting alloys (e.g., aluminum, zinc, brass) and their casting characteristics.
  • Comprehensive understanding of machining processes (CNC milling, turning, grinding) and their implications for die design.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong analytical approach to identifying and resolving complex die design and casting issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Experience in a new plant setup or ramp-up environment is a plus.

What Arun Engineering Offers:

  • Opportunity to be a foundational member of our new, state-of-the-art facility.
  • A dynamic and challenging work environment with opportunities for professional growth.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • The chance to significantly impact the success of a growing organization.
