The successful candidate will contribute to the REDSHINE project, a Walloon government-funded initiative focused on the development of SiC-based multi-megawatt converters to support battery storage systems and enhance renewable energy integration into distribution grids.

Key Research Topics Include

– Grid-forming control strategies for inverter-based resources– Frequency and voltage support, including the provision of synthetic inertia– Converter interoperability and control system interaction within distribution grids

Requirements

– Master’s degree in Electrical or Power Engineering (to be completed by September 2025)– Strong background in power electronics, control, and grid dynamics– Experience with renewable energy systems, energy storage, microgrids, or FACTS is advantageous– Excellent command of English; proficiency in French is an assetThe position is based at UMONS, a leading Belgian university with over 10,000 students and 1,000 researchers. The successful applicant will join the Research Institute for Energy, working alongside more than 125 active researchers, and will be part of the ALSTOM-funded Chair in Energy Electronics, aiming to establish a center of excellence in energy transition technologies.
