About the role


GCPL has been increasing investments on brands, with advertising spends having grown 2.5X in the last 4 years (now in the top 10 advertisers in India, similar increase across other key countries). The media function is run through a global team based out of Mumbai and is split into 2 teams:
  1. Center of Excellence- COE (partners with category teams in India and consults other countries on media planning)
  2. Center of Operations and Planning (partners with the media agency in India and across GCPL markets to operationalise media plans, media buys, agency commercials and audits)

Media COE has 2 key KPIs for driving media reach:
  1. Marketing must wins (translating business problems into media solutions deaveraged at granular cell i.e. market*demo level, understanding competitive activity, brand challenges, category nuances)
  2. Winning with consumers (identifying key media trends of consumers such as media attention, reaching media dark audiences etc.) and incorporating these into the media planning product

  1. Truly partner marketing teams to solve business and brand problems with access to all business data on sales, distribution, commerce, brand health etc.
  2. Work in an agile and challenging marketing environment that is constantly seeking ahead of the curve thinking
  3. Global role: operations span 9 categories in India and 15+ countries globally

A structured breakdown of the tasks for COE:
1. Brand Understanding: Gain a comprehensive understanding of each brands target group (TG), markets, source of growth (SOG), SWOT analysis, and competition details from the Brand/Marketing team.
2. Brand Task Input: Collaborate with the brand team to provide inputs for the brand tasks in various markets. (Note: This involves contributing insights based on brand understanding, not defining the tasks.)
3. Consumer understanding: Track consumer media consumption trends and build these back into GCPL s media product
4. Competition tracking: Track eyeball competition and emerging players in FMCG with a view to bringing in an outside-in view of media effectiveness and learning.
5. Media Solutions:
  1. Develop media solutions that align with the brand tasks, ensuring there is a clear rationale for why these solutions will be effective.
  2. Enhance and maintain GCPL s proprietary media mix optimiser
  3. Anchor brand media planning at an annual, quarterly and monthly level
  4. Conduct experiments (where necessary) to test hypotheses/ascertain effectiveness of the solution being proposed
6. Implementation with COP Team: Work with the COP (Center of Operations and Planning) team to implement these media solutions and ensure alignment with the brand teams.
7. Monitoring and Course Correction: Track the movement of brand KPIs and make necessary adjustments to strategies if needed.

Who are we looking for?


Education:

MBA in marketing/ media from a leading business school

Experience:

15 plus years of media planning experience with exposure to TV and digital media.
Knowledge of BARC YUMI/ TGI/ GWI.
Proven track record of annual and monthly media planning strategy.
Understanding of measurement frameworks, attribution models, sales and market research data.
Significant exposure on any large FMCG marketer (either with the advertiser or at a media agency)

Skills:

Senior stakeholder management on strategic and thought leadership initiatives
Presentation skills to leadership teams, with the ability to translate data into actionable solutions
Perseverance to test and learn
Leadership of a compact, dynamic team
Collaboration across marketing, CMI, business transformation and other allied functions across countries
