: Staff Software Engineer – Machine Learning Platform (GenAI)

About The Role

Join Coinbase’s

Machine Learning Platform team

to build robust infrastructure powering fraud detection, blockchain analytics, and personalized user experiences. You’ll work across all layers of the ML platform – from

streaming pipelines and distributed training

real-time inference and developer tooling

Key Responsibilities

Understand and address the needs of Coinbase’s ML engineers
Mentor junior engineers and elevate engineering quality
Optimize low-latency streaming pipelines for fresh, high-quality model inputs
Maintain high-availability, low-latency ML inference infrastructure (including LLMs)
Build tooling to track data quality and model performance degradation
Lead efforts in scalable distributed ML training systems

What Coinbase Looks For

10+ years of software engineering experience
Expertise in distributed systems, high-performance computing, and clean design
Strong communication and mentorship skills
Ability to work across a diverse tech stack and adapt quickly
Passion for developer experience and system reliability

Nice to Have

Experience building or working directly with ML models or pipelines
Prior platform engineering or developer tooling experience
Familiarity with:
Python, Golang
Ray, Spark, Tecton, Airflow, Databricks
Snowflake, DynamoDB

Work Culture
