Job Title: Fabrication Engineer – Firefighting & Safety Systems (EPC)Department: Engineering / Projects / FabricationLocation: [Insert Location or Project Site]Reporting To: Project Manager / Fabrication Lead / Engineering HeadJob Type: Full-TimePosition OverviewWe are looking for an experienced Fabrication Engineer to oversee the prefabrication and assembly processes of piping, structural supports, equipment skids, and component housings used in firefighting and life safety systems. The candidate should possess a deep understanding of fabrication practices as they relate to fire protection systems across industrial, commercial, and infrastructure-based EPC projects.
Key Responsibilities1. Fabrication Planning & ExecutionInterpret detailed fabrication drawings, P&IDs, and isometrics related to fire protection piping and safety systems.
Develop fabrication plans for:
Sprinkler piping systems (MS/GI/SS)
Fire hydrant piping, standpipes, hose reel piping
Skids for suppression systems (e.g., FM200, foam, clean agent)
Pump room and valve assembly fabrication
Ensure adherence to welding procedures (WPS/PQR/WPQ) and NDT requirements.
Coordinate with workshop and site teams for timely and accurate prefabrication and dispatch.
2. Material & Resource CoordinationPrepare cutting plans, material take-offs (MTO), and Bill of Materials (BOM) for fabrication scope.
Verify material grades, thicknesses, and specifications (pipes, fittings, supports).
Ensure traceability of materials and maintain fabrication quality records.
3. Quality Assurance & ControlConduct visual inspections, dimensional checks, and fit-up assessments.
Support QA/QC team in hydrostatic testing, pneumatic testing, and third-party inspections.
Ensure compliance with standards such as NFPA, IS codes, and ASME (where applicable).
Address fabrication-related NCRs and implement corrective actions.
4. Documentation & ReportingMaintain fabrication records, weld logs, and daily progress reports.
Collaborate with design and engineering teams for any fabrication deviations or site modifications.
Assist in preparing fabrication dossiers and as-built documentation.
Required Qualifications & SkillsDiploma / Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Production Engineering or related field.
3–8 years of relevant experience in fabrication within EPC projects, preferably fire safety-focused.
Sound understanding of fabrication techniques (welding, cutting, bending, threading, grooving).
Familiarity with fire protection system layouts and related fabrication requirements.
Proficiency in reading fabrication drawings, isometric views, and GA drawings.
Working knowledge of fabrication tools, CNC pipe cutters, welding machines, and threading equipment.
Knowledge of fabrication codes and standards: IS, ASME, NFPA preferred.
Certifications (Preferred but Not Mandatory) Welding Inspector Certification (CSWIP / AWS / ISNT Level II)
Fire Safety Training (NFPA / TAC / CFPS exposure)
ISO/OSHAS understanding in fabrication environments
Behavioral Competencies Strong planning and coordination skills
Detail-oriented with a quality-first approach
Ability to manage deadlines and multitask under site pressure
Team player with excellent communication and documentation ability
Working Conditions Workshop and site-based role; must be comfortable with industrial fabrication shop environments.
