The Available Research Areas Include

• On-device learning and multimodal large language models (LLMs) for edge AI
• Embedded systems for applications in space, agriculture, and other emerging domains
• Cognitive-inspired and neuromorphic computing, including in-sensor computing
  

Requirements

• Strong motivation for high-impact research
• Academic background in computer engineering or machine learning
• Proficiency in Python, PyTorch, and C/C++
• Experience with edge devices (e.g., Raspberry Pi) is considered an asset
  

UC Merced is the newest campus in the University of California system, attaining R1 status in 2025.
