University: Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) Country: Netherlands Deadline: 25 June 2025 Fields: Robotics, Control Theory, Applied Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science The Physical Intelligence Lab at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) invites applications for a PhD position as part of the ERC Starting Grant project RIPLEy, focusing on the model-based control of soft robots. The project aims to advance the field of robotic motion and interaction, drawing inspiration from the complex movements of biological organisms such as octopuses. The successful candidate will work on developing advanced model-based controllers tailored to the distributed dynamics of soft robotic systems and validate these controllers on experimental platforms. Requirements – A strong background in one or more of the following fields: Robotics, Control Theory, Applied Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science. – Motivation to work at the intersection of control theory, learning, and experimental robotics. – Excellent academic record, including a list of exams and grades from both bachelor’s and master’s studies. – Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
