Nextiva is currently seeking a bright and talented individual for a Senior Platform Engineer position to join our expanding voice platform engineering team . The position is responsible for developing IaC and configuration tooling for deployment and integration of voice related platforms. This role requires a high degree of experience in platform engineering in the cloud, and a background in software development and operational awareness. The candidate must be able to design new, interpret existing cloud configurations and augment to meet the product development ecosystem. This role will require previous development experience, ability to trace errors, dig into code up the stack, understand coding logic, and provide RCA/solutions to issues. In addition, the candidate will use software development background support voice platform teams around tooling and automaton, both the development of and support of, along with reviewing stack code that voice platforms connect into. The candidate must be self-driven, highly motivated, have a sharp eye and attention to detail, respond quickly when needed, and have sound decision making skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop tooling to support automation of IaC, configuration and build processes for Nextiva s cloud communications initiatives and telephony applications
- Code review, troubleshooting, and testing of automation and related tooling applications
- Decomposing existing cloud architectures and configurations and presenting key data
- Creating and supporting custom tooling & observability for platform operations teams
- Creating and supporting scripting for testing/QA automation suites and runtime frameworks
- Implementing observability tools, reporting capabilities including integration into data lakes and presentation UI s
- Troubleshooting all aspects of the design, install and maintenance of tools and the systems they are deployed to
- Advanced troubleshooting of microservices stack
- Support for Incident resolution
- Build, maintain, and promote strong technical documentation
- Normal business hours and after hours/on call responsibilities
- Technical liaison to product development, engineering, support, and executive level staff
Qualifications
- At least 6+ years of platform engineering experience, with 3+ years experience in systems engineering
- A software development and operational background; experience in real-time communications voice infrastructure including mobility a plus
- Strong understanding of scripting languages like Terraform, Ansible, JavaScript and Python; preferred experience with GitHub Actions
- Strong understanding of public cloud space infrastructure (GCP preferred), security compliance, IaC, build and deployment methodologies
- Strong understanding of CI/CD and distributed architectures, ability to read and troubleshoot Java code base
- Baseline experience with Kubernetes architecture and operations, including:
- Deploying and managing workloads using Pods, Deployments, StatefulSets, and DaemonSets in day-to-day operations
- Writing and editing basic Kubernetes manifests (YAML) for configuring services, ingress rules, persistent volumes, and secrets
- General understanding of Kubernetes networking, including service discovery and ingress controllers
- Experience working with RESTful APIs, including:
- Designing, consuming, and debugging APIs using tools like Postman, curl, and httpie
- Parsing and validating JSON payloads and schemas
- Familiarity with OpenAPI/Swagger specifications and API documentation best practices
- Strong systems reliability engineering including capacity planning, performance, scalability and life cycle management
- Solid SRE best practices, including reliability, observability, monitoring, availability, and incident response
- Familiarity with observability tools, including: DataDog, Kibana, Splunk, Prometheus, Homer/Hepic
- Solid understanding of traditional infrastructure tenants; Networking, Firewalls, and OS base
- Demonstrate sound judgment in problem solving, identification, troubleshooting and solutions
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, with attention to detail
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task, prioritizing multiple objectives and initiatives
