The successful candidate will join the GASPAR research group to conduct a PhD within the 4-year research project, ‘Do voters use socio-demographic cues to estimate politicians’ ideological positions? (IdeoPos)’, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Bram Wauters and Dr. Robin Devroe.This project investigates how voters use cues such as gender, age, and ethnic origin to estimate the ideological positions of politicians, employing experimental research methods to test existing theories and develop new frameworks within the context of representative democracy.
Requirements
– Master’s degree in political science, sociology, public administration, political psychology, or a related human sciences field– Strong scientific and critical thinking abilities– Motivation to conduct independent scientific research and complete a PhD on ideological stereotypes (including participation in PhD training)– Ability to autonomously design and execute a research project– Familiarity with political science theories and experimental research methods, or willingness to develop expertise in these areas– Familiarity with statistical analysis, or willingness to improve these skills– Excellent academic record– Proficiency in English and Dutch writing, or readiness to improve language skills– Strong teamwork skills and willingness to assume responsibilities within the GASPAR team– Willingness to participate in international conferences and publish in international outlets
Offer
– Full-time doctoral fellowship for up to 48 months (initial 12 months, renewable upon positive evaluation)– Start date: 1 October 2025 at the earliest– Competitive fellowship amount, exempt from personal income tax
