Video Editor

As far as video editing roles are concerned, this one is neither too creative, nor too boring. The thing about very creative editing roles is that your boss will need you to come up with something “viral” every week. And the thing about boring editing roles is that it’s just far too repetitive, snooze level. This role is neither of these things. 

We’re looking for a video editor for a podcast on careers hosted by Prof. Mahesh. He’s a popular professor at IIT Madras from the Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering department. He also runs the Centre for Excellence in Sports Science and Analytics. 

The podcast is called Prof. Mahesh Podcast. This is the link for the podcast channel on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@profmaheshpodcast - do check it out. The aim is to help senior school and college students, as well as their parents learn more about different streams of science, engineering and technology so as to help them  make informed career decisions (instead of blindly going into some random CS++ course). We launched the podcast only a few months ago, and we are already at about 50k subscribers, and aim to reach a million in two years. 

Mission for this job

Create the final podcast and shorts in such a way that we are able to build a premier podcast brand. 

Responsibilities

• Edit a full podcast episode + related shorts per week
• Edit promotional content for various social media, ad, and partner channels
• Make sure that the brand assets are being used wisely (intros, transitions, animations etc) and improve upon them
• Make sure that b-rolls are being used wisely
• Collaborate with the extended team - writers, cinematographers, consultants and Prof Mahesh

Requirements

• Proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects (Photoshop and Illustrator are a plus) (we will test for this)
• Comfortable working with Descript, or willing to learn quickly
• Good communication and storytelling skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to meet a consistent weekly turnaround time
• Experience editing for podcasts, interviews, or conversational content is a bonus
