Job Overview

We are looking for a skilled and imaginative Textile Designer who understands the nuances of Kanjeevaram weaving and silk saree aesthetics. The ideal candidate should have a strong design sensibility, knowledge of traditional motifs and color combinations, and an ability to create both classic and innovative patterns that appeal to modern customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design original Kanjeevaram silk saree patterns, including motifs, borders, pallus, and overall layouts.

• Work closely with handloom weavers to ensure designs are practically translatable into weave.

• Develop color palettes and fabric swatches suited to seasonal collections and special editions.

• Research traditional South Indian designs, temple art, and cultural motifs to inspire collections.

• Collaborate with marketing and merchandising teams to align designs with brand direction and customer preferences.

• Create detailed design tech packs and loom instructions for production.

• Review woven samples and iterate designs as needed.

• Stay updated on fashion trends, market shifts, and innovations in textile techniques.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Textile Design or related field.

• 1-3 years of relevant experience in textile design, preferably with handloom or heritage crafts.

• Strong portfolio showcasing work with woven textiles.

• Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or CAD for textiles.

• Deep understanding of Indian textiles, with specific expertise in Kanjeevaram or South Indian weaving traditions.

• Attention to detail, strong sense of color, and a passion for reviving and reimagining traditional crafts.

Preferred Skills

• Experience working with weaving clusters or artisan groups.

• Knowledge of Jacquard design or CAD for handloom weaving.

• Ability to sketch or paint motifs manually.

• Familiarity with fabric construction, yarn types, and dyeing techniques.

What We Offer

• A collaborative, craft-centered work environment.

• Opportunity to work with master weavers and contribute to a meaningful design legacy.

• Competitive compensation and benefits.

• Scope for creative freedom and growth in a niche, high-value textile segment.
