Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with diverse external stakeholders such as government officials, industry leaders, academia, and civil society organizations to foster collaborations and ensure the alignment of AI initiatives with societal needs. Participatory AI Governance: Address challenges and opportunities in participatory AI governance by developing best practices and frameworks that prioritize public good and citizen involvement. Open source Framework & Toolkit : Spearhead the development and implementation of frameworks related to biases, fairness, and inheritability and explainability for AI applications Tool and Product Evaluation: Research and recommend open-source tools for participatory feedback in AI applications, guiding product development teams in integrating these tools effectively. Ethics and Compliance Oversight: Establish and monitor ethical AI practices, ensuring models are fair, transparent, and comply with regulatory requirements, while assessing their social and economic impacts. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including user researchers, designers ,data scientists, engineers, and domain experts, to integrate ethical considerations into AI system design and deployment Project Management and Leadership: Oversee AI-related projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with organizational goals, while also contributing to strategic planning and internal policy adherence. Capacity Building: Design and conduct workshops and training sessions for government and non-profit partners to enhance understanding and implementation of ethical AI governance practices. Knowledge Dissemination: Stay abreast of global AI trends and share insights through conferences, workshops, and publications, positioning CivicDataLab as a thought leader in ethical AI practices. This is a 12-month consultancy role, based in New Delhi, with potential travel across India, offering an opportunity to make a significant impact on AI governance and citizen participation. CivicDataLab (CDL) harnesses the potential of open knowledge movements to strengthen the data-for-public-good ecosystem and enable citizens to engage in matters of public reform. We work closely with governments, non-profits, think tanks, media houses and universities to enhance their data and technology capacity to better data-driven decision-making at scale. Our current areas of expertise include digital public goods & infrastructure (DPGs & DPI), climate change, public finance, urban development, open contracting and law & justice. We have co-created digital public goods and emerging technology solutions like open data platforms, data exchanges, data science models and citizen-led apps for improving participatory data-driven governance in India and other countries. Candidates are supposed to come with a 5-slide presentation as per the details mentioned below for the interview round. Take any current existing AI policy/framework and help us identify the gaps and provide your recommendations, OR any past article written, OR a presentation given by you on AI Governance in India If all goes well, we\u2019ll have a final \u2018Culture Discussion\u2019 round , and you get to meet the rest of the team. Requirements Required Skills & Qualifications: Master\u2019s in Policy Research, Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Law or a related field. 5+ years of experience in AI/ML policy research, with some experience in a leadership or management role. Extensive knowledge of AI/ML, data management systems, regulatory frameworks, and ethical AI practices in the Indian context. Expected Knowledge of AI tools and applications relevant for the Indian Context Technical understanding of AI systems, model lifecycle management, and various associated risks. Strong knowledge of various AI and data governance principles, global data privacy laws, and industry-specific regulations (e.g., DPDP rules, IT Act India, GDPR, EU AI Act etc) Ability to understand and work with complex regulatory environments and provide pragmatic solutions to governance challenges. Expertise in risk management frameworks, audit processes, and AI/ML validation techniques. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex research concepts into practical applications. Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with experience working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
