Operation Engineer – Turbine Desk Operation

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor steam turbines and auxiliary systems (governing systems, lube oil, seal oil, vacuum, condensers, and feedwater systems) through DCS/SCADA.
• Perform turbine start-up, synchronization with the grid, load management, and shutdown as per SOP.
• Monitor critical turbine parameters like speed, load, temperature, vibration, steam pressure/flow, and take corrective action when required.
• Ensure efficient turbine operation by coordinating with Boiler Desk for optimum steam conditions.
• Respond to alarms, abnormal operating conditions, and handle emergency scenarios (overspeed, high vibration, trip conditions) safely.
• Prepare operational logs, reports, and equipment status updates during the shift.
• Supervise field operators (TCOs) and ensure smooth coordination between field and desk operations.
• Implement safety protocols, Permit-to-Work (PTW), and Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) systems during maintenance or shutdown.
• Participate in planned shutdowns, inspections, and turbine overhauls in coordination with the maintenance team.
• Ensure compliance with plant safety standards, environmental norms, and statutory regulations.

Qualifications

• Diploma / BE / B.Tech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

Experience

• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in turbine desk operations in a thermal power plant (25 MW or higher capacity).
