MEP BIM Design Engineer / BIM Modeler / BIM Draftsman

Reports To: Design Team Leader

Role & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

1. MEP Modelling and Drafting

• Develop and maintain 3D BIM models for MEP systems using Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, and other BIM tools.
• Create detailed drawings, layouts, and schematics for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems based on project specifications.
• Generate construction documents, shop drawings, and fabrication details for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and firefighting systems from the BIM model.

2. Coordination and Clash Detection

• Perform clash detection using software like Navisworks or BIM 360 to identify conflicts between MEP systems and other building components (e.g., structural or architectural elements).
• Collaborate closely with architects, structural engineers, and contractors to ensure all MEP systems are well-coordinated and properly integrated into the overall project design.
• Resolve MEP-related clashes and update models accordingly to reflect changes or modifications.

3. Compliance and Standards

• Ensure all MEP designs comply with local codes and regulations, including IS (Indian Standards), ASHRAE, NEC, and IPC.
• Follow BIM execution plans and project-specific BIM protocols and standards to ensure consistency and accuracy across all models.
• Incorporate energy-efficient solutions and sustainable design principles in MEP systems where applicable.

4. Documentation and Reporting:

• Extract and prepare accurate quantities, material take-offs, and schedules from the BIM models for project costing and procurement.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of design changes, revisions, and updates in accordance with project requirements.
• Provide reports, as needed, on model progress and clash resolution, ensuring clear communication with project stakeholders.

5. Site Collaboration and Support

• Assist project teams with the coordination of BIM models on-site, ensuring proper implementation of MEP systems during construction.
• Support field teams by making necessary adjustments to the BIM model as the project progresses.
• Perform as-built modelling based on field data and redline drawings.

6. Software Management

• Manage and maintain BIM software, ensuring that models are stored, updated, and backed up in accordance with company procedures.
• Stay updated on the latest BIM tools, technologies, and industry trends relevant to MEP systems.

Required Qualifications:

• Education:

  Certificate Course, Diploma or bachelors degree in mechanical, Electrical, or Plumbing Engineering, or a related field.

• Experience:

  2-5 years of experience in MEP BIM modelling, design, or drafting, with a strong portfolio of completed projects.

• Technical Skills

  :
• Proficiency in BIM software, including Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks, and BIM 360.
• Strong understanding of MEP systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, firefighting) and their integration into building designs.
• Familiarity with industry standards and codes, such as ASHRAE, NFPA, NEC, IPC, and IS.

• Certifications:

  Relevant BIM certifications (e.g., Autodesk Certified Professional) are a plus.

Working Conditions:

• Primarily office-based, with occasional site visits and inspections.
• Travel may be required depending on project locations.
