Job Description

Job Title:

Why this role exists

digital twin of Earth

What youll do

  • 3-D Earth-Twin Engineering

ingest multi-resolution imagery, DEMs, and vector layers; texture and stream them into Unreal + Cesium; optimize LOD, tiling, and photogrammetry workflows.
  • Spatial Data Science & Pipelines

design ETL pipelines (Python + Spark/Dask) that clean, convert, and enrich TB-scale raster & point-cloud datasets; automate with Airflow/Luigi.
  • GIS Application Development

    – build analytic tools & plugins in QGIS, Bhuvan 3D, Google Earth Engine, and custom web-GL viewers; expose REST/OGC services and GraphQL endpoints
  • Programming & Scripting

    – write production-grade Python (PyProj, GeoPandas, Rasterio, GDAL, CesiumJS), C++ Blueprints in Unreal, and occasional JavaScript for Cesium front-end tweaks.
  • Collaboration & Documentation

    – partner with remote-sensing scientists, DevOps engineers, product managers; author design docs, RFCs, and user guides; mentor junior Geo-devs.

Must-have qualifications

  • 3–6 years

professional experience in geoinformatics, GIS software development, or 3-D geospatial visualization.
  • Hands-on mastery of

QGIS, Cesium (JS & for Unreal), Google Earth / Earth Engine, and ISRO’s Bhuvan 3D

    ecosystem.
  • Python for spatial data science

—GeoPandas, Rasterio, Shapely, PyProj, GDAL, PostGIS/PGRouting; comfortable with distributed compute (Spark, Dask, or Ray).
  • Proven work on

digital twins, 3-D city/planet models, or game-engine-based GIS

    (Unreal Engine and/or NVIDIA Omniverse).
  • Experience integrating

    satellite/remote-sensing data

(NASA’s Landsat & MODIS, ISRO’s CartoSAT & Resourcesat, Copernicus Sentinel, LiDAR, SAR).
  • Solid grasp of

map projections, CRS transformations, tiling schemes, OGC standards (WMS/WFS/WCS/3D Tiles)

    .
  • Version control (Git), CI/CD basics, Linux shell fluency, and Agile/Scrum participation.

Nice-to-have skills

  • Cloud-native geospatial stack: AWS S3 + Lambda, Google Cloud Storage + BigQuery GIS, or Azure Maps.
  • Real-time data streaming (Kafka, MQTT) and time-series databases (InfluxDB, Timescale).
  • GPU acceleration (CUDA, Vulkan) or point-cloud engines (Potree, entwine).
  • Basic ML/AI for feature extraction (CNN, segmentation) using TensorFlow/PyTorch.
  • Knowledge of C++ gameplay programming, blueprint scripting best practices, and performance profiling in Unreal.

Foundational knowledge expected from any Geoinformatics Engineer

  • Geodesy & survey fundamentals

    : ellipsoids, geoids, datum transformations.
  • Photogrammetry & LiDAR principles

    : bundle adjustment, point-cloud classification.
  • Spatial statistics & analytics

: kriging, hotspot analysis, network analysis.
  • Cartographic design

: color theory, symbology, scale, annotation.
  • Remote-sensing basics

: spectral indices, radiometric correction, atmospheric correction.
  • Database design

for spatial data: indexing (R-Tree), topology rules, and ACID vs. eventual consistency trade-offs.
