SAP ABAP Expert- Visakhapatnam Port Authority

Position /Title: SAP ABAP Expert

Nos. required: 01 (One)

Location: Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA)

Mode of Employment: Contractual-Full Time

Key Responsibilities -

1. ABAP Development:

• Design, develop, and implement custom ABAP programs, reports, interfaces, forms, and enhancements.
• Write efficient, well-documented, and maintainable code using ABAP best practices.
• Develop and maintain SAP Script, Smart Forms, and Adobe Forms for various business processes.

2. System Customization and Enhancement:

• Customize SAP modules (e.g., FI/CO, MM, HCM) based on business requirements.
• Implement user exits, BAdIs (Business Add-Ins), and enhancements using Enhancement Frameworks.
• Develop and modify ABAP Dictionary objects such as tables, views, and data elements.

3. Integration:

• Develop and maintain interfaces between SAP and other systems using technologies like ALE, IDocs, RFCs, BAPIs, and Web Services.
• Work on data migration tasks using tools such as LSMW (Legacy System Migration Workbench) or custom programs.

4. Debugging and Troubleshooting:

• Analyse and debug ABAP programs to resolve issues in existing applications.
• Perform root cause analysis for any system errors or issues and implement appropriate fixes.

5. Testing and Quality Assurance:

• Develop and execute unit tests for new or modified ABAP programs to ensure code quality.
• Collaborate with functional teams to perform integration testing and resolve any issues.
• Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) and assist users in testing new functionalities.

6. Technical Documentation:

• Prepare and maintain technical specifications, design documents, and user guides for ABAP developments.
• Document changes and enhancements in SAP systems to ensure traceability and support for future upgrades.

7. Collaboration and Support:

• Work closely with SAP functional consultants to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Provide support to end-users and resolve any technical issues related to ABAP programs.

8. Continuous Improvement:

• Stay updated with the latest developments in SAP and ABAP programming practices.
• Recommend and implement best practices and process improvements in ABAP development.

Educational Qualifications:

• SAP Certified Development Associate - ABAP with SAP NetWeaver.
• SAP Certified Application Associate - ABAP with SAP HANA (for those working on HANA environments).
• Certification in specific SAP modules (FI / MM) can be an added advantage.

Skills & Experience:

1. Technical Skills:

• Programming:

  Extensive experience in ABAP programming, including Reports (Classical and Interactive), ALV (ABAP List Viewer), Dialog Programming, and Batch Data Communication (BDC).

• Enhancements:

  Expertise in SAP enhancements, including User Exits, Customer Exits, BAdIs, and Enhancement Frameworks.

• Forms:

  Proficiency in SAPScript, SmartForms, and Adobe Forms for developing and modifying print forms.

• Integration:

  Strong understanding of SAP integration technologies, such as ALE, IDocs, RFCs, BAPIs, and Web Services.

• Database:

  Knowledge of ABAP Dictionary, SQL, and database operations within SAP environments.

  Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyse complex business processes and translate them into technical solutions.

• Communication:

  Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with functional teams, stakeholders, and end-users.

• Attention to Detail:

  High level of accuracy in coding and documentation to ensure system reliability and maintainability.

1. Experience:

• Mid-Level: 4-6 years of hands-on experience in ABAP development, including complex program design, enhancements, and integration tasks.

1. Preferred Experience:

• Experience working in SAP S/4HANA environments, particularly with ABAP on HANA.
• Knowledge of Fiori/UI5 development for building user-friendly interfaces in SAP.
• Previous experience in industries such as logistics / ports /maritime industries.
