Job Description

Job Summary:

The Python & SQL Server DBA is responsible for managing and maintaining SQL Server databases while leveraging Python for automation, data processing, and performance optimization. This hybrid role combines traditional DBA duties with scripting and automation to ensure database reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server databases across development and production environments
Monitor database performance and optimize queries, indexes, and system configurations
Automate administrative tasks using Python scripts (e.g., backups, health checks, alerts)
Develop Python tools for data migration, reporting, and monitoring purposes
Implement and manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery plans
Ensure data security, access control, and compliance with organizational policies
Collaborate with developers to support application database needs, stored procedures, and schema design
Analyze and resolve database issues including locking, deadlocks, and performance bottlenecks
Maintain comprehensive documentation for configurations, procedures, and automation tools
Participate in deployments, upgrades, and capacity planning

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
3+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA and proficiency in Python scripting
Strong knowledge of T-SQL, stored procedures, indexing, and query optimization
Hands-on experience with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and SQL Agent Jobs
Experience with writing Python scripts for task automation and data processing
Familiarity with database security, backups, and high availability configurations
Good troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or similar certification
Experience with REST APIs, JSON handling, and libraries like Pandas or SQLAlchemy
Familiarity with CI/CD processes and DevOps tools
Exposure to monitoring tools like Redgate, SentryOne, or custom Python dashboards
Understanding of ETL processes and data pipelines
