A Production Support Engineer is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of software applications and systems in a production environment. They work closely with development teams, system administrators, and end - users to resolve technical issues and provide ongoing support. Key Responsibilities : Application Support : Provide technical support for production systems and applications, including troubleshooting, debugging, and resolving issues to minimize downtime and ensure high availability. Incident Management : Respond to and resolve incidents and service requests in a timely manner according to defined service level agreements (SLAs). Investigate the root cause of incidents and implement preventive measures to avoid their recurrence. Monitoring and Alerting : Monitor system performance and availability using various tools and techniques. Set up and maintain monitoring alerts to proactively identify and resolve potential issues before they impact users. Troubleshooting : Analyze system logs, database queries, and other diagnostic information to identify the cause of production issues. Collaborate with development teams to debug and resolve complex technical problems. Change Management : Participate in change management processes to ensure the smooth deployment of software releases, patches, and configuration changes into the production environment. Conduct impact assessments and coordinate with stakeholders to minimize risks and disruptions. Documentation : Maintain up - to - date documentation related to production systems, including troubleshooting guides, knowledge base articles, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Ensure that documentation is accurate, accessible, and effectively shared with the team. Continuous Improvement : Identify areas for process improvement and efficiency gains within the production support function. Propose and implement solutions to enhance system reliability, performance, and supportability. Collaboration : Work closely with cross - functional teams, including developers, system administrators, network engineers, and business stakeholders, to ensure effective communication and collaboration in resolving production issues. On - call Support : Participate in an on - call rotation to provide 24/7 support coverage for critical production systems. Respond to and resolve urgent issues during off - hours, including weekends and holidays. Qualifications and Skills : Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix systems and scripting languages (e. g. , Shell, Python).
