Job Description

We are seeking highly motivated and compassionate General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) qualified Nurses to join our dedicated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing exceptional, specialized nursing care to critically ill and premature newborns, working closely with neonatologists, pediatricians, and a multidisciplinary team. This role requires strong clinical skills, critical thinking, empathy, and the ability to provide crucial support to families during challenging times Direct Patient Care: Provide comprehensive, round-the-clock nursing care to neonates with various medical conditions, including prematurity, low birth weight, respiratory distress, infections, and congenital anomalies. Perform thorough assessments of neonates, including vital signs, physical examination, neurological status, and fluid balance, promptly recognizing and reporting any changes in condition. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the medical team, ensuring accurate dosage, route, and timing, and monitoring for efficacy and adverse reactions. Manage and monitor complex medical equipment such as ventilators, incubators, phototherapy units, infusion pumps, and cardiac monitors. Perform nursing procedures including, but not limited to, IV cannulation, Ryles tube insertion, urine catheterization, specimen collection (blood, urine, CSF), and wound care, maintaining strict aseptic techniques. Assist physicians in various procedures, including intubation, lumbar puncture, central line insertion, and minor surgical procedures. Ensure proper feeding (breast milk, formula, gavage feeding), bathing, diapering, and maintaining strict hygiene protocols to prevent infections. Monitoring and Documentation: Accurately record and document all patient observations, interventions, medications administered, and responses to treatment in the electronic health record (EHR) or patient charts. Maintain meticulous records of fluid intake and output, vital signs, and weight. Generate and maintain necessary reports related to patient care and unit operations. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with neonatologists, pediatricians, respiratory therapists, dieticians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans. Participate actively in daily rounds, handover processes, and team meetings, contributing to the holistic care approach. Communicate clearly and empathetically with parents and families, providing regular updates on the infants condition, explaining medical procedures, and offering guidance on newborn care and discharge planning. Provide emotional support and counseling to anxious parents, facilitating parent-infant bonding through practices like Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC). Safety and Quality Improvement: Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols, especially those related to infection control, medication administration, and patient identification. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and adverse event reporting to enhance patient safety and care standards. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment within the NICU. Professional Development: Stay updated with the latest advancements in neonatal nursing through continuous learning, attending workshops, seminars, and professional development programs. Engage in self-assessment and seek constructive feedback for continuous improvement
