Job Description When considering applications for the professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level within the area of Veterinary Biomedicine. The professorship is part of Section of Biomedicine that encompasses the topics of experimental and clinical pharmacology and toxicology, laboratory animal science and welfare, veterinary and nutritional immunology, comparative pediatrics and bioinformatics and are the main responsible for the biomedicine track on the veterinary education. Studying interactions between exposure and response in complex biological systems is a central part of the biomedicine track and thus research, supervision and teaching in this area will constitute the main focus of the professorship. This includes developing, validating and monitoring in vivo disease- and PK/PD models - for example for testing a novel drug in an experimental animal exhibiting a specific disease phenotype – and evaluating the pharmacokinetic (PK), pharmacodynamic (PD) and toxicological properties of a given compound. A successful candidate to the professorship must have substantial experience with these areas and across animal species. A broad and expanding field, Veterinary Biomedicine engages several disciplines. Besides pharmacology and toxicology, these include veterinary pathology, physiology and laboratory animal sciences. In addition, methods to analyze effects and endpoints are continuously emerging, encompassing areas within digital image analysis, histopathology, molecular biology and bioinformatics. A successful candidate must be able to document experience in at least some of these areas and show the ability to collaborate with colleagues from related disciplines. Job Description The vacant position is part of the research group Data and Modelling which belongs to the Section for Animal Health and Welfare and includes one full professor, five associate professors, one assistant professor and two PhD students. The scientific environment in the section consists of several research groups in close collaboration, covering various disciplines all relating to understanding and management of animal health and welfare in individual animals and populations. The VetStat group (VetStat being the Danish database for surveillance of Veterinary medicine usage) is an interdisciplinary subgroup in the section including persons from different research groups. The aim of the position is to strengthen the VetStat group in relation to database-based research in Veterinary medicine use and statistics with particular emphasis on methods for analysing medicine prescription data on pigs from VetStat. These analyses will combine VetStat data with other relevant data sources, including qualitative data collected through questionnaires or interviews with veterinarians and farmers. Another aim is to maintain and extend the competences for the Veterinary Contingency work and international impact of the VetStat group. The position is expected to contribute to the research strategy of the department in relation to sustainable animal production and it includes teaching of courses and supervision of students. The candidate should be able to contribute to and further develop teaching at all levels in database-based research in Veterinary medicine use and statistics.
