About the Role

We are hiring a technically strong Engineering Manager to lead backend engineering efforts for a next-gen Card Management Platform. The role demands a hands-on leader who can architect and build scalable Java-based systems while driving technical excellence and team performance. You'll work in a high-impact fintech environment focused on cards, payments, and transactional platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of backend engineers focused on designing and building systems for card issuance, transaction processing, settlement, and reconciliation.
• Stay hands-on with architecture, design, and coding especially in Java, Spring Boot, and microservices.
• Build scalable, fault-tolerant services with high availability and low latency.
• Ensure quality through rigorous code reviews, test automation, performance tuning, and observability best practices.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, QA, DevOps, and Security to deliver business-critical features on time.
• Manage sprint planning, resource allocation, and delivery while mentoring team members.
• Foster a high-performance engineering culture of continuous improvement, ownership, and innovation.
• Address technical debt and scale the systems to support growing customer and transaction volumes.

Technical Skills & Expertise

• Strong command of Core Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and Microservices architecture
• Experience with Card Domain systems – card lifecycle management, issuer processing, BIN setup, tokenization, settlements, and compliance
• Familiarity with payment networks (Visa, MasterCard, Rupay, etc.) and EMV standards is a plus
• Proficiency in multi-threading, performance optimization, and real-time data processing
• Hands-on experience with RDBMS (PostgreSQL, Oracle) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.)
• Exposure to message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and distributed systems
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
• Experience implementing PCI-DSS, ISO 8583, or other payment security/compliance protocols is desirable

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• 8–14 years of experience in backend software development, with at least 3+ years in an engineering leadership role
• Demonstrated ability to manage teams while staying hands-on with the codebase
• Proven experience in scaling platforms in high-transaction domains such as cards or payments
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Preferred Experience

• Prior work in digital banking, card networks, payment gateways, or card issuing platforms
• Familiarity with API-led card issuance, transaction fraud monitoring, or loyalty/rewards systems
• Certification in Java or cloud technologies is a plus
