Post – Director Operations for US Mortgage - Work from Office

Location –Kothrud Pune

Job Shift – (Night Shift) 5 Days Working

May require traveling to our delivery locations in Maharashtra and Karnataka

Job Summary:

The Director of Operations for US Mortgage Underwriting is responsible for leading and managing underwriting and QC department, ensuring efficient workflow, adherence to regulatory guidelines, and achievement of service level agreements (SLAs) for all our clients.

MUST have underwritten QM and NQM loans, including Credit, Compliance

Seasoned loan underwriting experience a plus

Must be able to understand QM/NQM/NPL/S&D SOWs and estimate corresponding time required to underwrite a loan

Knowledge of various private lenders underwriting guidelines including agency guidelines.

Manage operations & Quality Control departments and achieve targeted accuracy from the team,

Track SLAs for clients and employees and take pro-active action

Knowledge of Post-Close QC, Indexing, Document Management, Title and Valuation products.

Strong Leader with strong track record of operational excellence. Must have handled large operations

Must Drive large -scale transformation initiatives, integrating automation, AI and technology-driven solution to enhance efficiency compliance and customer experience. Must play a pivotal role in developing and implementing cutting edge automation solution in the post-closing segment of mortgage life cycle.

This role drives operational excellence, risk management, and continuous improvement in mortgage underwriting processes to ensure quality, turn time and communication.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Strategy:

    • Oversee day-to-day operations of the mortgage underwriting team.
    • Develop and implement operational strategies to support business growth and efficiency.
    • Collaborate with senior leadership on underwriting policies, guidelines, and risk appetite.
    • Establish performance benchmarks and drive accountability through KPIs and metrics.
  • Process Management:

    • Streamline underwriting processes to optimize turnaround times and reduce bottlenecks.
    • Implement quality control procedures and ensure compliance with investor and regulatory standards (e.g., Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA).
    • Monitor pipeline management, workload distribution, and underwriter productivity.
  • Team Development:

    • Lead, mentor, and develop underwriting managers and staff to ensure high performance.
    • Identify training needs and promote a culture of continuous learning and development.
    • Manage staffing levels and recruitment in alignment with business needs.
  • Risk & Compliance:

    • Ensure underwriting decisions align with company policies and investor guidelines.
    • Partner with compliance and quality assurance teams to ensure audit readiness.
    • Review exception requests and high-risk loans as needed.
  • Technology & Reporting:

    • Leverage technology platforms to improve operational efficiency.
    • Generate and analyze operational reports to guide strategic decisions.
    • Recommend system enhancements and workflow tools.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related field (MBA or equivalent preferred).
  • 15+ years of experience in mortgage underwriting, with at least 5+ years in an operations or leadership role.
  • DE/SAR/LAPP certification is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of conventional and government loan underwriting guidelines.
  • Proven ability to lead large teams and manage high-volume operations.
