Cooperative Intelligence and Model-Based AI Engineering

The Department of Computer Science at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is pleased to announce multiple openings in the new research lab led by Dr. Tan Xuan, starting in August 2025. The lab's primary focus is on advancing cooperative intelligence through rational, model-based artificial intelligence engineering. If you are interested in contributing to this dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment, we invite applications from PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, research assistants, and visiting students. We are looking for candidates with backgrounds in various academic fields such as Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Cognitive Science, and Computational Linguistics. The research topics of interest include modeling and engineering human-like cooperative agents, cooperative infrastructure for human-human and human-machine interactions, applications of rational cooperative AI, and probabilistic programming and model-based planning for safe AI. To be considered for these positions, you should have a demonstrated interest or experience in one or more of the research topics mentioned above, along with a strong academic record in a relevant field. For PhD applicants, eligibility for the NUS Computer Science PhD program is required, as per departmental requirements. For postdoctoral and research assistant applicants, relevant research experience and a publication record are advantageous.
