Software Development Engineer

In this role, you'll contribute to custom Backstage plugin development, design self-service workflows, and engage with engineering teams to support the adoption and continuous improvement of our internal portal. You'll also gain hands-on experience deploying and operating software on AWS as part of our internal platform.

Your role:

• Design, develop, and maintain Backstage plugins and features that extend the capabilities of our Internal Developer Portal.

• Build self-service workflows to streamline common engineering tasksu2014like service scaffolding, onboarding, documentation, and resource registration.

• Support hosting and deployment of Backstage and related services on AWS, using infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and GitHub Actions.

• Help ensure the operational stability of the portal and related tooling, working with senior engineers to improve observability, reliability, and automation.

• Engage with internal developer teams to understand pain points, gather feedback, and co-create solutions that improve day-to-day development experiences.

• Foster a culture of transparency and collaboration through InnerSource practices, encouraging contributions from business units.

• Grow your expertise in developer portals, platform engineering, and cloud-native software deliveryu2014with the support of experienced mentors.

You're the right fit if:

• Solid foundation in software development, with proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, or C#).

• Interest in developer experience, platform tooling, and building internal products that improve how developers work.

• Basic familiarity with cloud hosting concepts and AWS services such as ECS, Lambda, S3, or CloudWatch (hands-on experience preferred).

• Exposure to CI/CD workflows, GitHub Actions, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform is a plus).

• Willingness to learn and work with Backstage, React/TypeScript, and related open-source technologies.

• Strong collaboration and communication skillsu2014you enjoy helping others and learning from your peers.

• Experience in Backstage framework or providing Platform Engineering services at scale in an Enterprise is a plus.

Minimum required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology OR Vocational Education in Information Technology or equivalent.Minimum required Experience:
minimum 4 years of experience in areas such as Software Development, Software Design and Architecture, Testing and Quality Assurance or equivalent.

For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week.Onsite roles require full-time presence in the companyu2019s facilities.Field roles are most effectively done outside of the companyu2019s main facilities, generally at the customersu2019 or suppliersu2019 locations.this role is an office role.
